Meet the future Kings who are destined to rule across Europe, Asia and the Middle East

While a handful of European countries – including Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands – have female heirs to the throne, a number of others will one day be ruled by Kings.

From Europe, to the Middle East and Asia, here's a guide to those next in line to the throne.

The current ruler of the small principality on the French Riviera is Prince Albert II, the son of Princess Grace and Rainier III.

Prince Jacques is the son of Princess Charlene and Prince Albert, and will succeed his father, although considering he turned just nine on December 10, 2023, that day is still many years away.

Prince Jacques is a twin and even though his sister Princess Gabriella is two minutes older than him, she will miss out on Monaco's throne.

That's due to the principality's primogeniture laws, which state males take precedence over any females in the line of succession.

After King Charles III, Prince William is heir to the throne of the United Kingdom which includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Commonwealth.

His title is officially Prince of Wales.

Prince William's eldest son is Prince George of Wales, who will one day accede the throne.

George, who is 10, is second-in-line to the British throne.

Crown Prince Christian is first in line to the Danish throne after his father, King Frederik X, was made Denmark's monarch in 2024.

Christian is the eldest son of Frederik and Queen Mary.

The 18-year-old was promoted to the title of HRH Crown Prince of Denmark and Count of Mopezat when he became heir apparant to the Danish throne.

Crown Prince Haakon will become the next monarch of Norway after his father, King Harald V, who is 86.

King Harald has suffered ill health in recent times, and now uses walking sticks daily. In 2020, he had a heart operation.

Crown Prince Haakon often fills in for his father on official duties and has drastically stepped up his workload since the King's health issues.

On July 20, 2023, Crown Prince Haakon celebrated his 50th birthday.

When Haakon does take the throne, by his side will be Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra is in line to the throne after her father.

The current ruler of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is King Abdullah II, who has been monarch since 1999.

His wife, Queen Rania, was crowned the world's youngest queen aged just 28 at the time.

Abdullah's heir is eldest son Crown Prince Hussein, who recently married.

Jordan's future King and Queen are Crown Prince Hussein and his new wife, Princess Rajwa.

The couple married in a spectacular ceremony and reception on June 1, 2023, attracting royals and VIPs from across the world.

The 29th, and current, Sultan of Brunei is Hassanal Bolkiah who took the title in 1967 following the abdication of his father.

But he wouldn't fully take over the role for another 10 years.

The Sultan is one of the world's longest-reigning and few remaining absolute monarchs.

He and his son recently attended the coronation of King Charles III.

The Sultan's heir is Prince Abdul Mateen.

He's a trained pilot and studied at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

Japan's Emperor Naruhito, his wife Empress Masako (left) and their daughter Princess Aiko.

He's served as Emperor of Japan since 2019.

But his daughter will not inherit the Chrysanthemum throne.

Japanese law dictates that females are not in line for the throne, as only men in the direct male line of succession are allowed to reign as Emperor.

In 2020, the Emperor's younger brother Crown Prince Akishino was officially declared the heir to the throne.

Luxembourg is ruled by Grand Duke Henri and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

Their eldest son is Crown Prince Guillaume (left) who will one day head the Grand Ducal Court.

In March, 2023, Crown Prince Guillaume and his wife Crown Princess Stephanie gave birth to their second son, François.
