To be honest, I've heard Cherrelle's stuff before but I didn't realize who it was. What made me purchase this CD was the song "Saturday Love" which I originally thought was Janet Jackson's song for years until I saw it on this CD!
I also wasn't aware that "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" was Cherrelle's and not Robert Plant's song! No disrespect to Mr. Plant's version (which is a classic in its own right) but I am glad to hear Cherrelle's.
The CD as a whole is a good example of how R & B music used to be. You still have a few examples of that today such as Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Babyface, Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Joss Stone and Chrisette Michele that carry on traditions that guys like The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Manhattans, Tammie Terrell, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Luther Vandross, The Isley Brothers, Shalamar and (of course) Cherrelle began.
If you were a fan of her's but don't have the money to get her CD's individually or just want to hear her best, then this is a good place to start. Very good CD!
Cherelle is the glossy classic original 80's diva and u just can't touch, with finesse and a whole lotta tude baby. She is at her best when collaborating with Jimmy jam and the Minneapolis sound, there is nothing to not like, her music is universally loved. I was so happy they included "Will U Satisfy" on the greatest hits, even though it wasn't a hit, it's nice to have it on cd. There were a couple songs on here I hadn't heard which are now some of my new faves from Cherelle. Like "Affair" and "Fragile.. Handle with Care". Cherelle exemplifies class and sophistication, and her music has stood the test of time. This cd has all the best grooves for the Cherelle experience.
For those who thrive on old school, this takes u back to several different phases of Cherrelle's career. It has all of her major hits with the exception of 2 songs (which are included on the "Best Of" album.) The price is a bit steep for my tastes but it was worth it to add to my collection. The songs have been remastered wonderfully, however to my dismay, some are not the full length versions. All in all it is a sound buy.
