- Cheri DYardville, New Jersey461 contributionsPlenty of flowersThis was our 2nd time here in a few years, but exhibits do change. There was a focus on Orchids this visit and the exhibits were gorgeous. One in particular that stood out was an Ice Cream Parlor display with Orchids in hanging baskets. How beautiful it was especially since I never saw them displayed that way before. There were, of course, some of the same exhibits, but the Butterfly Room is a always a favorite and just awesome! They have a small gift shop that does include live plants to purchase at pretty prices and the cafe has decent food. Would visit again!Visited March 2023Written June 28, 2023
- LNorton62Brisbane, Australia115 contributionsExtensive Chihuly collection, topiaries, bonsai, and fun children's gardenThe extensive collection of Dale Chihuly glassworks alone makes this worth a visit. These artworks are in the Conservatory so are undercover. There are also bonsai and fun animal topiaries in the Conservatory. Don't miss the Children's Garden next to it, which is great fun for children of all ages. There are interactive displays, playground and water play. Definitely one of Columbus' top attractionsThank you so much for the wonderful feedback. - happywanderer856390 contributionsWonderful conservatory with something for everyoneHaving lived all my life in the shadow of Longwood Gardens, I am usually disappointed by other botanical gardens. Franklin Park Conservatory was not a disappointment at all. I am a big fan of Chihuly glass and I enjoyed seeing it throughout the conservatory. I was blown away by the animal topiaries! I've never seen anything like it. I also enjoyed the outdoor train display. The trains ran through multiple areas which were constructed from all natural materials to resemble fairy tale lands and imaginative animal homes. Amazing! There were a lot of families there on this day and the children, as well as the adults, were enjoying the displays.Thank you so much for visiting! Hope you can come back soon.Written August 2, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2023Written July 15, 2023
- CariocaGirlSaint Paul, Minnesota296 contributionsLovely and if you love Chihuly you will love it!I spent time in the indoor part of the Conservatory. It was lovely with many different types of plants to enjoy. For me a huge surprise was how many pieces by glass artist Chihuly were on display. It was the most I have ever seen in one place. That was a highlight! So glad you enjoy yourself! - Natalie G39 contributionsA must see if you're in the area and love flowersAbsolutely beautiful to walk through and see everything! Great children's area that is very interactive - bring their swimsuits if warm enough. Gift shop is very small with only one magnet in their selection w a butterfly on it. I'm a magnet collector from adventures so this was disappointing when you think of all the beautiful displays you had just seen. We didn't go into the cafe but they had a few tables to sit and eat in air conditioned spaces. Plenty of seating throughout the inside and outside if you need to rest. All in all ...9/10 recommend (due to the magnet selection). Enjoy!Thank you so much for the positive feedback!Written August 31, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 6, 2023
- James & BethHockley, Texas237 contributionsPerfect After Breakfast TreatGo first thing in the morning. The plants are beautiful. We went after we had breakfast and walked it off. Definitely takes 2 hours, but the Chihuly glass presentations are worth it if you are a fan. Since we came up during a heat wave at home, it was nice to see everything in bloom and thriving. If you want to go in the evening. they light up all the glasswork.Visited August 2023Written August 6, 2023
- ealeightAustin, Texas22 contributionsPlants, art glass, and sweet staff make a great dayInteresting exhibitions inside, beautiful grounds outside. Finding all the Chihuly installations was an added bonus. If you have toddler to elementary school aged kids, it looked like you could spend hours in the children’s garden outside. The staff working in the glass blowing studio was very informative. The front desk staff were very helpful in pointing out spots of my interest.Thank you so much for visiting!Written October 30, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten September 10, 2023
- Lee APhiladelphia, Pennsylvania427 contributionsWhat a gem of a Conservatory! We had a picture-perfect day at the Botanical Gardens. The outdoor gardens, given the month, had fantastic Hallowe'en decorations. Plus, there is a glass-blowing Hot Shop on site (we saw a cup being made by Forge and Justin). So glad you had a wonderful time! - LABDRB1,312 contributionsUplifting and inspiring! What do you do on a rainy, dreary day? Bring some sunshine into your life! The Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio, dates back to 1852 (before the Civil War), when the Franklin County Agricultural Society established the park. It evolved over the years, and the conservatory itself was built in 1895. The Palm House at the Conservatory was designed by famous Victorian-era greenhouse designer Lord & Burnham and is one of the largest in the US. The Chihuly glass artwork collection is amazing. - TravelbugPittsburgh, Pennsylvania407 contributionsPumpkins AGlow!!Went to the conservatory mainly to check out the Chuhily displays. It was Halloween season and the children's garden was all set up for the season! We decided to go back at night to see the garden all lit up and it was amazing!!! The train display outside is one of the coolest train displays I have ever seen, it is all made of wood. So many photo ops and a great event for families. There is a nice gift shop/cafe inside the building and the Chuhily displays were nice as well.Thank you so much for visiting. The conservatory was very large, and had a lot of different plants that we hadn't seen at other botanical gardens. It was a rainy day so we mostly stayed inside, but it was definitely a fun visit, and I am glad that the butterfly house was part of the exhibits, as normally you have to pay extra for that. They also have a children's garden that the kids really enjoyed. I would of liked to have seen more of the outdoor gardens, but due to the rain we weren't able to. The only downside was the price, which seemed to be much more than other comparable conservatory/gardens we have been too.

Our friends from Phoenix came to visit. The Chihuly glass exhibit was the key factor of us going to the Gardens/Conservatory. We all were so happy to have went. The glass exhibit was exquisite and the Conservatory grounds were so beautiful. We ate a delicious lunch in the Atrium. A woman in our family was in a wheelchair and we found that the pathways were very accommodating. This was our first time to go there and we will surely recommend it to everyone!

It's a bit expensive if you won't be going there on a regular basis and get an annual membership, which I did and then used it only once. Very nice seasonal displays and attractions for different consumer groups (wine and vines, kind of thing) with a large focus on children. The Chihuly displays are nice but often over-booked. You can walk around the outside gardens for free.

1st time at Franklin Park Conservatory. Our main reason to go was the Chihuly exhibit. They have a large permanent collection of his work Was not disappointed and was impressed with the Conservatory. I will definitely go back when the weather is warmer to see other plants and flowers.

The Conservatory is filled with beautiful flora. At present the glass art of Dale Chihuly is on display mixed in with nature’s beauty. Our visit was a great way to get a little touch of spring— in the dead of winter.

Even without the huge number of glassworks by Dale Chihuly the Franklin Park Conservatory would have been wonderful today. Chihuly’s work, which is integrated throughout the interior and exterior areas takes the experience to an even higher level. Easily one of the must-experience places in Columbus!

We came here from Cleveland, specifically to see the nighttime illuminated Chihuly glass collection on various rooms of the gardens. It was worth it. The outdoor train collection was very pleasing to watch as well. This is a large facility and make sure you enjoy every room. One caution, the Palm house can be reserved fir private functions as it was the night we were there, so it was not accessible to us.

I went to see (and smell) the corpse flower and hadn’t been to the garden before. I loved seeing all the botanical beauty on display. The Chihuly glass was particularly stunning as it was illuminated. Worth a visit and perhaps a membership!

I went with my cousin, aunt and uncle. It was a beautiful evening and so enjoyable. There were hundreds of pumpkins carved in so many different images. Lots of lighting, a huge pumpkin in lights and a great railroad exhibit, all in the outdoor gardens.

Really cool outside mega-train display. Walk under its bridges, etc. As an extra, there are many world class custom glass exhibits interspersed throughout the collections. Plants in their natural habitats.

What is the average indoor afternoon temperature in late July inside the glass buildings and how long does it take to stroll through?

There are stairs in the building and a few tight & elevated spaces in the conservatories, but this is a spacious, modern facility, so I assume that it has elevators and there is a great deal to see without climbing the stairs. I would call ahead and ask -- the staff is friendly and helpful. Also, I believe that most of the grounds would be accessible -- there are wide, well-maintained sidewalks.

It depends on what else you want to do. Are you going to Cosi? Are you going to the German Village? If so, I would stay downtown.

How long would you need to enjoy the Conservatory? Is this an all day activity or can you see everything in a few hours? I am trying to plan this along with some other activities.

Can you comment on discounts or what is available for free?

Admission is $18.00, Seniors- $15.00. They do offer some discounts, such as with AAA.At least in the past they did...I have been there during the winter and also for the butterfly display. It is really a tranquil place to visit. If you are doing business ( for ex) in the Cols. area it is a relaxing place to visit. Even the grounds are nice. There is no charge for enjoying the grounds outside the conservatory. If a person is a member of the Franklin Park Conservatory you also get discounts...

Yes there are AAA, Active Military and Senior Discounts. The discount is only $1 per person. There is no parking fee and you can stroll the outside grounds for free. It is when you enter the conservatory that you must pay. See my review for more details and pictures.
