When are you going to Takayama? Sunday has 50% chance of rain. You could take your chances and go to Kamikochi as a day trip and walk along the river. Very pretty in the rain. (You need to transfer at Hirayu Onsen.) https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/route_bus/kamikochi-line-en/#timetable

Or go to Shirakawago which is also pretty in the rain. https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/route_bus/takayama-shirakawago-line-en/

Shin-Hotaka is a place to view the surrounding mountains, so you won't want to go there.

Monday is 80% chance of rain (for now), but it doesn't say "heavy." You can certainly explore Takayama. The old town has many interesting shops. If you're going to Kyoto at 4 pm, you'll want to be going to the station by 3:30.

Sightseeing in the rain in Japan is part of the norm. As long as it's not pouring rain, you should still be able to manage.

Definitely don't go to Shin-Hotaka. Mist and clouds easily obscure the best views.

hi...

my original plan was to go for kamikochi on 12th ( from matsumoto ) and alpine route on monday,

but i have changed my alpine route to sunday due to rain on 13th

so now i am planning to go to kamikochi on 13th.. will it be good if raining ? i believe we cant see mountain view if its raining ??

or maybe go to shirakawago better ??

i plan to go to kyoto at night if possible

re local weather forecast Kamikochi will be rainy on 13th with 90-100% of precipitation - can be heavy, whereas it'd be cloudy on 12th.

Better visit Kamikochi on 12th and cross the Alpine route on 13th. For latter the main theme is Snow wall walk in Murodo @2400m, which is less affected by rainy days.

I'm confused.

Aren't you going to be in Takayama on Monday? "i will be in takayama this monday," As in Hida Takayama? https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5900.html

"my original plan was to go for kamikochi on 12th ( from matsumoto ) and alpine route on monday," But you were planning to do the Alpine Route? As in Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route? https://www.alpen-route.com/en/

You are going from Matsumoto to the Alpine route (from Matsumoto to Shinano-Omachi to Ogizawa to Murodo), then back again to Matsumoto to Takayama by 4 pm to catch a train to Kyoto?

so original plan was

sunday : mataumoto - kamikochi - matsumoto

monday : matsumoto - alpine route - kyoto

now i have changed it to

sunday : matsumoto - alpine route - ( undecided )

monday : ( undecided ) - kyoto

for the undecided i was thinking to stay in toyama / kanazawa / takayama ...

but if i choose kanazawa, bus from kanazawa to shirakawago is sold out in morning... only non reserved bus are there..

any suggestion ?

If you can cross the Alpine Route in time to get to Kanazawa at a reasonable hour, you should go there. If not, stay in Toyama. On the next day, you can explore Kanazawa, then go to Kyoto from there. You can take the Shinkansen to Tsuruga, then transfer to Thunderbird. About 2 hours.

Go to Kamikochi, Takayama and Shirakawa-go on your next trip!

Have fun!

12th Sun - better visit Kamikochi. it's cloudy with only 30% chance of precipitation.

13th Mon - up to you. Either cross the Alpine route re your original plan or drop by Takayama for a few hours before moving on to Kyoto.

>>sunday : matsumoto - alpine route - ( undecided )

not a good idea to backtrack to Matsumoto, which is a waste of time/money. Besides, can you secure hotels in Kanazawa/Toyama for tomorrow ?

yes.. i am thinking to stay in kanazawa... and hotels are still available..

so what ti do in kanazawa ?? many tourist attractions ?

i never explore kanazawa in the internet...

btw, i choose alpine route on 12yh, because 13th will be raining.. and some reviews say if it rain hard.. we wont be able to pass the wall... which will be disappointing .
