The IPL 2024, which began on March 22, concluded on May 26 with the Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third IPL title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in Chennai.
Mitchell Starc delivered what could be considered the best ball of the tournament, showcasing KKR's formidable bowling attack. The pitch, offering seam movement for at least seven overs followed by some spin, proved too challenging for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were bowled out for the lowest score ever in an IPL final, 113. KKR chased down the target with ease, finishing with 57 balls to spare, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer's explosive 52 off 26 balls.
Sunil Narine became the first player to win the Most Valuable Player award in the IPL three times (2012, 2018, 2024). Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap for the second time in his IPL career, while the Purple Cap went to Harshal Patel, also for the second time.
KKR topped the points table with 20 points, while SRH and RR secured the second and third positions with 17 points each. RCB, riding on six consecutive victories and accumulating 14 points, claimed the fourth spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finished IPL 2024 with 14 points each, placing them fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively. The Gujarat Titans, last year's runner-up and one-time champion, ended the season in eighth position with 12 points. Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians followed in ninth and tenth positions on the points table.
The Qualifier 1 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad was played on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with KKR emerging victorious. The Eliminator match between RCB and RR took place on May 22 at the same venue. The Qualifier 2 on May 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai was won by Sunrisers Hyderabad after defeating Rajasthan Royals.
