Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Stephen R1 contributionI lived in the Cathedral Close from aged 7 until 21. My father worked in the Registry Office at 16 years old and stayed employed until his retirement ( he was in the RAF during WW 2 ). Visitors have commented on Ted Heath living in the Close, perhaps they didn't realise the Leslie Thomas the author (Virgin Soldiers) also lived here.Written 6 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruth B4 contributionsSuch a very beautiful church. As well as the amazing Doom painting, there are medieval paintings in the Lady Chapel, a Royal Coat of Arms dating from Elizabeth I (with dragon rather than unicorn), and plenty of other features.
But the best bit is how friendly and welcoming the staff and congregation are.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Written 29 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Greta views of the Cathedral. Always wildlife to see, water voles, kingfishers, little egret. - Brooke H1 contributionMe and some of my friends went on a Silver Arts Awards trip here and we all really enjoyed it because we loved learning about how and why all these different sculptures were created. It was very interesting observing all these very different creations.Written 18 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris WisemanExeter, UK24 contributionsAfter visiting the Boscombe Aviation Collection at Old Sarum, just around the corner is this fabulous little brewery. You sit inside or outside and sample the local fine ales on offer. If you like what you taste you can purchase a keg to take away with you. The beers here are fresh and lovely and of course vary in strength depending on what you choose from the menu. Choices change regularly depending on what is brewed on site. The staff are super friendly and helpful and depending on the time of day there is often a nice food wagon parked outside cooking delicious burgers or pizza's depending on who is there. This added to our day at Old Sarum and it is clearly a popular place with local businesses as well as visitors.Written 3 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Toby CGravesend, UK6 contributionsBought a Victorian Pedestal Desk from Nick which was delivered promptly. Item exceeded expectations. As Nick rightly says each piece is unique, and old! But Nick clearly chooses the best pieces and they are accurately described and well looked after.
Buying 'blind' is always a nervous experience, especially in the world of antiques, but I would purchase again from Nick without hesitation.
If we find ourselves anywhere near The Old Bell House we will definitely make a detour to see Nick and his wonderful collection. In the meantime we are keeping an eye on the website to see what else might take our fancy.
Thank you Nick for making the desk purchase as good as it could be and for the care and attention you show to customer service. That's as rare nowadays as some of your furniture!Written 14 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul FChesterfield, UK4,273 contributionsThis little area is lovely, very quaint and typical English architecture presides. The shops are mostly small independents full of lovely things to buy.Written 27 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dan jPort Coquitlam, Canada810 contributionsWe visited the Cathedral off a ship tour during a turn around day and ventured into the pedestrian area outside the Cathedral compound. - ChastidyiSeymour, TN640 contributionsMy husband and I were excited to spend some time at the market after visiting Stonehenge. I thought it was going to be a lot of local crafters and artists. It was mostly food — already prepared and things to take home to cook. There were a few stalls with random merch… t-shirts, hats, vintage coats, hunting gear, and a mystical booth. We had fun perusing the wares. We parked in Culver’s St car park. I wish I’d realized there was a closer car park. I don’t know that I would visit the market again unless it was for the mystical shop.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EESW1Lincolnshire, UK5,090 contributionsPicking up comments by previous posters, this is to report the repairs to the market cross are nearly finished. There is just a small area still with scaffolding. The rest is now back in use and you can ince again sit inside.Written 7 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KentEnglandLifeChatham, UK2,949 contributionsCould only look around the outside but it's a nice building set in a lovely square. History info on some of the walls outside. - on_the_go_98765Tucson20,631 contributionsIt was clean, shops were modern, and we did find everything we needed. Nice presentation. Touristy in a nice way. - Enid WSt Clears, UK4 contributionsVenue in great position on the river.
Plenty of seating inside and in the garden.
Friendly and helpful staff.
We went for an early evening meal.
The Chicken Kyiv, was enjoyable, plenty of chicken, but needed more garlic butter!
The Steak pie and chips was good, but the charred hispi cabbage was under cooked.
Enjoyed the atmosphere.Written 24 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
