Frederick A. Peterson, longtime resident of Deptford, NJ passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on November 21, 2022 at the age of 90 years. Devoted husband of 70 years to the late Phyllis June Peterson (nee Orr), who predeceased him in January of 2022. Beloved father of Fred Peterson, Sandy Peterson (Joe), Donna Sheets (Jeff), Bonnie Stefano (Vince), Kim Fehre (the late Rob). Proud grandfather of Tobey (Dave), Mandi (Perry), Ashley (Kevin), Brittany (Alex), Shanell (Matt), Brandon (Jennie), Ricky, Madison, Robby (Nicolee'), Fred, Nina, Tucker, and Aaron; great grandfather of Allison, Marriya, David, Nicholas, Bria, Laci, Audrey, Brynlee, Savannah, Alex, Jr and Kash; great-great grandfather of George.
Fred was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 6, 1932, to the Late Charles E. Peterson and the Late Myrtle Peterson (nee Espenshade). At the age of 7, he and his family moved to Deptford, NJ. He served as an alter boy at St. John Vianney Church, Deptford, NJ for many years. He graduated from Woodbury High School in 1951. After high school he attended Drexel University to study pattern making and later worked on the design of the military M48 Patton tank.
He was a Lifetime member of the Almonesson Lake Fire Department. He was a member of the Deptford Fireman's Relief Association, where he served as treasurer for 50 years, as well as a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Fireman's Association and a Life Member of the New Jersey State Fireman's Association.
In 1958 Fred started his own construction company. His first job was remodeling the Whitman Chocolate building in Philadelphia. From there he went on to build 55 custom homes, 2 Churches, 3 Firehouses, 1 Ambulance/Rescue Squad, 3 Commerical warehouses & offices as well as many remodeling projects. He was well know for his quality craftmanship. Fred made relationships with every client he did work for. He has left an overwhelming imprint throughtout his career and was well known, especially in his home town of Deptford, NJ.
Fred was a devoted family man who always made you feel important. Fred made sure that there was one family vacation each year that included everyone and had instilled the importance of Love and Family. Fred was well known for his "Firm" handshake that he engrained in every family member.
Fred liked spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and water skiing. Some of his favorite places were Poconos, Lake Lenape, and Cape May to name a few.
Urn Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2022, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church Street, Blackwood NJ 08012, where a second visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM the following morning, Saturday, December 3, 2022. His Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Infant Jesus Parish / St. John Vianney Church, 2901 Good Intent Road, Deptford, NJ 08096. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Township, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Almonesson Lake Fire Company, 1700 Almonesson Road, Deptford Township, NJ 08096. Condolences may be shared at www.earlefuneralhome.com
