Charmed Casts Lucy Barrett as Macy’s Replacement in Season 4 — What’s Her Connection to Mel and Maggie?
The Power of Three will remain intact, thanks to Lucy Barrett. The Australian actress is joining Charmed as a new series regular when the reboot returns to The CW for Season 4 in 2022.
Charmed‘s fourth season will be overseen by a new trio of showrunners — Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco and Nicki Renna — who have this to say about Barrett’s character: “Her name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie are being kept under wraps, because… well… it’s just more fun that way. What we will say is she’s an artist with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life’s passion. She’s fun, irreverent, impulsive, strong-willed and will bring a brand-new energy to the Power of Three.”
During a recent interview with TVLine, Renna said, “We’re so excited about this character. It’s an opportunity to bring in an incredibly fun, irreverent, unpredictable personality. She’s edgy and smart and has a wicked sense of humor, but we also like that she’s not perfect. She’s flawed. She has insecurities and fears like we all do. We’re just having a lot of fun, and we’re excited to explore how that will affect the dynamic between Mel and Maggie, as well as Harry and Jordan.”
Added Lieber, “We have taken into account that we don’t want to rely on Marisol’s secrets to provide the new character. So this will be a different experience than anything that’s happened on this show or the previous one. We’re going to rethink the entire dynamic.”
News of Barrett’s casting comes two months after Madeleine Mantock announced her “difficult decision” to leave the series after three seasons. Mantock played eldest sister Macy until the character’s untimely death in Charmed‘s third season finale.
For those who watched the original Charmed on The WB, you’re probably feeling a sense of déjà vu right about now. Shannen Doherty, who played eldest sister Prue, also parted ways with the show after three seasons, allowing for the introduction of Rose McGowan as estranged fourth sister Paige.

Exactly neither do I, I’m still heartbroken that Macy died I feel we didn’t get enough of Macy and Harry and now we never will.
if this new charmed character is NOT from marisol -its not going to work! c’mon now! dont show me another “charmed one ” from a different family ,still living ,that just happens to have the same powers as macy -and think thats going to be ok! because its not ! PLUS – Madeleine said last year -“we have a bunch of writers that are of color -and 1 white guy” -now its 3 white guys and where are the other writers of color???? where are the WOK writers -that THIS show bragged about? i think its time to put this show to rest ! they have messed up so many things ,1 -the long lost sister – 2- the source of all evil is now macy – 3-maggies personality is so soft! 4-harry is the one explaining everything super natural -5-they moved from hill town and their house was invisible and now its not ??? so many things that dont make sense but they want us to believe it! Even if they freeze one of Marisol’s Charmed eggs and an the evil professor/Dr they killed when they first united stole the egg to raise his on evil Charmed baby(I’ve been thinking about this for a while,and damn near ready to write this myself) the story has too many holes, and it’s hard to redeem killing Macy; as if her character was something simple. Macy was a complex and unique character that spoke for many cultures. For once I actually saw someone like me on T.V and was intelligent asf. We’re use to hearing about strange potions, but she actually would breakdown things to their chemical components and made fantasy a reality. I need y’all to figure this out cause you owe us closure thats gonna take more than an episode… For example, how long did it take Piper? Yeah… That!
PLUS ,i think i know WHY Miss Madeleine left . she said in 1 of her interviews (this is NOT an exact quote but ) its racist to keep “abby” on the show -she should have been dealt with like any other villain but by keeping her on the show and developing her character to be as strong as the main character ,was wrong! now when she said it ,the other girls looked at each other like “i cant belive she said it and in the same second they nodded a yes-“so maybe there was a problem with Madeleine and the writers? i cant imagine a actress who is kind of new ,kind of young -leaving a show that is hers and she’s the main character.it doesnt make sense ! i feel that the writers that was “WOC” all left -and now the show has white writers -this was NOT what i thought has promised. they havent showed male witches -they havent really battled a lot of demons or warlocks- they havent showed their family tree or their family magic! if i moved objects with MY mind i want to know who else can do it in my family! i have to compare the original and the reboot and so far the ORIGINAL is far superior so far ! where are the charmed ones family other than the trans cousin? no pictures of grandma or grandpa? marisol had no brothers and sisters??? this show has to grow more!!! and it needs to be darker -and NOT a afternoon special .where as we learn morals and ethics every episode!!!
She basically got the actress who plays Abby fired – and then quit the show herself.
If she wants to worry about white people taking over the show, she should worry about Harry.
There are episodes where Harry gets 20 minutes of screentime for his stupid evil whitelighter storyline.

No she did not get “Abby fired.” The fact that you would leap to this conclusion is so problematic for the simple fact that you have no proof that the actress was even “fired.” You sound like the people that harassed and used racist/derogatory slurs against Madeleine over what they thought was Abigeal’s exit. Can you even say with any certainty that Abigeal is no longer a part of the show?

Also Harry is indeed very prominent in this series. Honestly the show is more about him than the so-called Charmed Ones. They really should have called this show, The Last Whitelighter because that is exactly what it is.
There was bts video of crew-not the main cast-saying “ well miss you Poppy”& talk of her visiting her hometown.Plus eith Abby seemingly redeemed,what more for Poppy to do is there?
I know about the Instagram exchange between Abigeal’s actress and some of the Charmed crew but that is not proof. More importantly, that has nothing to do with Madeleine. My point was she didn’t get anyone fired. If Poppy left then she either did so on her own or her contract was only for 2 seasons. None of her fans know so they need to stop with the racist attacks and false rumors.

I don’t think your intentions are bad, but please don’t start false rumors about Madeleine Mantock. She has already been the victim of racist attacks by certain “fans” of the show because of how her character

The only person she spoke about in an interview was the actor who plays Harry and she positively gushed about him. At no point did she give an interview with the other two girls where she mentions any of her costars or their characters in a derogatory way. You are lying if you claim she did.
She spoke about the actress who plays Abigeal while on an Instagram Live with just Harry’s actor and her exact words were “Poppy is lovely and she does such a good job playing Abigeal.” This was in response to fans who wanted to know when Macy was going to “vanquish” Abigeal; referring to Macy’s onscreen rivalry with the character.
Madeleine is opinionated though and her and her co-leads were aware of the racial dynamics at play on their show. The mother of the actress who plays Maggie mentioned on Twitter how there was a lot of issues BTS. Anyone who watched the show during S2 and S3 probably noted the issues as they were obvious even on screen. The development of the leads, as individual characters, was stagnant in the last two seasons compared to certain characters. Individual story arcs were given to certain characters instead of the show leads.
I don’t think anyone should be surprised by Madeleine’s exit. Two out of the three incoming showrunners did not like her. She was in no position to affect anyone’s job, considering that she couldn’t save her own.
In any case she is no longer affiliated with the show and people just need to leave her alone.

You wrote that she said, or alluded to the fact that, it was “racist to keep Abby on the show.” That is a false statement and you will not find any interviews of hers to support that statement.
Madeleine was mistreated by the S2 showrunners and writers. I think you get that and support her? I’m just asking you not to put words in her mouth because she didn’t have a problem with her costars, white, black, or other. She had an issue with some of the writing and writing choices. She was not the only lead who felt this way.

she DID an interview and in THAT interview she was speaking about the character abby. in THAT interview she said that had this demon been any other demon it would have been vanquished but because it was a white female ,they developed her character and made her equally important as the charmed ones- now i did NOT quote it all word for word but THAT was the gist of what she said ! and im looking for that video and i cant seem to find it! i think they took it down .if i find it i will post it .

With all the news stories from this show that has made headlines EVERYONE would remember as it would have been a huge talking point still
You can’t claim to like Madeleine and then lie about her so blatantly, especially about a topic a sensitive as race. She was the victim of racial bias on her own show and here you are trying to turn her into the aggressor. I am asking you, please don’t do that. For everyone else reading this Madeleine Mantock NEVER said that about Abby, character or actress. I love how opinionated Madeleine is but more that, I loved how she was able to differentiate character from actor, actor from writers, writers from showrunners, and even showrunners from network. The “original” show wasn´t dark at all. When I compare them, I will always prefer the reboot. Because the OLD show only showed women in over sexed costumes and comments. I think its actually time for a show, which is about more then fiction, fun and special effects (also women in short outfits). A show, that is dealing with actual problems of the society and moral/ethic issuse.
I don´t understand the comment about the family. The old charmed one neither had any (magical) family exept the dead grandma and mother (who showed up any time its helpful for the storyline).
We just saw more of the family historie of the charmed ones in season 3: that marisol had a hole family in puerto rico. Maby we should be passionate. I belive, that there is coming more.
How many (main)characters were of colour in the old show? One?! And the magic is always placed in north america, from english women from the 18th century?!
Of course I´m sad, that madeline isn´t part of the show. But I´m curios about season 4, what happend with the sisters and especially Harry.

nothin about this reboot makes sense, season 1 started slow but founds its place at the end, season 2 was good, but season 3 lost me after 4 episodes, ill finish it but if it doesn’t pull me back in I wont be checking into season 4.

They really shot themselves in the foot with using the ‘secret daughter’ as the opening gambit of the show. I am curious how they’ll spin this without it being another secret kid, but maybe it’ll something like Marisol donated an egg when she was struggling and this is new girl is the result.

Since Macy dies because her body became unstable at a molecular level, i think they’ll put a part of Macy’ soul or essense inside this new girl (like happened with Prue in the comicbook continuation of the OG series)… that’s why she and harry get married in the dreamworld in the finale (they’re mean to find eachother in all the lifes) and i think that’s what the Guardian tells Macy when they’re alone

This is charmed a story about sisters who are witches. A story about sisters using the bond and bloodline to fight evil. If this new girl is not a blood sister it’s not charmed. There mother was just lying individual or she did what she had to keep the girls safe. I am going to give season 4 chance by if this new girl is not a sister I am going to have a problem because charmed is about sisterhood and family that have magical background.
I wish they’ll do away with this farce!

This is literally turning into the original. I love both versions, but have some originality. I loved that they were more diverse in this version, but come on separate it from the original people!

yes !! all good names ! but will they do it? or will they challenge the viewers and bring out an old charmed one that some how survived and she’s the new sister??? when the original show came out ,they had said that the “Charmed ones”-came from the warren family ,and they where destined sisters.now it seems ,we have many charmed ones in the past and they might not be all from the warren family. things are changing! i just dont know if its for the best though. only time will tell. PLUS when is mel giving birth??? that might change the show too because mel might look different physically –
Approaching this as someone who’s followed this show and it’s predecessor, but they really need to get their stuff together on this show. The writing hasn’t been the greatest since season one and it’s understandable why Ms. Mads decided to depart from the franchise. At times it’s frustrating because there’s so much potential for this show to be good! I had reservations about it but I’ve seen what this show can do if given the proper legs to stand on. I just hope these new show runners get their bearings and make some good stories. It doesn’t have to be all seriousness, there’s gotta be room for whimsical and nonsense sometimes. That season finale had the bonding moments we had to wait 3 years for. Just please, as someone who enjoys good storytelling, please consider making the stories worthwhile and make the payoffs worth the long wait. All the best. Macy was my favorite and I hope this new sister brings a good balance to the Vera’s. Hopefully another M name, Maige.

She’s from the cousins’ brujeria family? A guess, and it would be a difficult one to pull off, given the Aussie accent and the Puerto Rican roots…but a guess, nonetheless!
