Otherside Deli. The corned beef is stacks of thick-cut, melty brisket rather than thin rubbery flaps you get at most places.
I drive to their inconvenient location during their inconvenient hours at least once a month just for that pastrami.
Gourmands is a solid spot, love their Godfather sandwich.
Best Reuben I’ve had in this area is at Brothertons BBQ in Pflugerville. Otherside is pretty damn good too.
Regardless, I love Gourmands too. Solid spot!
Yes, Brotherton's is solid. Central Texas does smoked brisket better than anyone, so why wouldn't we smoke corned beef, and put it on a Ruben? All the other Rubens in ATX are just imitations of New York delicatessens. Brotherton's does something different and it's delicious. Their Philly Cheesesteak is delicious as well.
Huh, I live right near Brotherton's yet haven't tried their reuben yet. Sounds like I've done myself a disservice, adding it to the to-do list :)
I love Gourmands! Unfortunately they’re being forced to move out in less than a year.
Any more info on that?
If I knew more, I’d be more specific. If I remember correctly, an employee who seemed like a manager said that their lease would end and the owner had plans to sell the property. Then another time more recently I thought I overheard him lamenting an upcoming end to someone he seemed to know well.
Hm. So maybe. Wouldn’t be surprised either way. It is a really cool place but uh…the bathroom situation of that building is terrible, so not all would be lost.
You don't like to use the urinal in the middle of the shared women's restroom?
The weirder thing is how I know a few “nicer” places that have grosser bathrooms. For being divey, Gourmands never crossed into being gross, and that’s a rare feat.
Yeah what? I thought it was a group of friends who owned that building which is why it never went out of business and prices were so reasonable. I love that place!
They don’t own the property. And they sold 49% to the folks who currently run it. And it is being sold and redeveloped in the near future. I’ve heard differing things, one being the folks behind Suerte are doing the redevelopment, but I don’t now the veracity of that.
That sucks. Thanks for the info
Nooo!!!!! Damn it, we love that place. Lunch on a Saturday then over to Kitty Cohen's.
Also, this was an old school Mexican dance club back in the day. Really sad to see it go.
I’m so freaking hungry.
Looks absolutely yummy delicious good
I also recommend The Orgy from Gourmands. As well as The Dagwood.
Everything they make is so good!
They’re shutting down this yeah and I cannot overstate my devastation.
For me: Little Deli is the best followed closely by Biderman's Deli
edit for spelling.
I love their food and the mural on the side!
Have you had the Reuben at pieous?
Sour Duck has a good Reuben
Second deadly sin with the broc chz bowl is big pimpin at gourmands. Like someone else said, Gourmands is getting the boot on their property, so they may be gone for good. Try NeWorlDeli for their Reuben, it’s not wholly authentic but it’s real good.
They sold their building. It won't be around much longer.
Where’s the corn beef? No here knows what a Rueben should be.
Amen to this. Reuben from north Montreal was part of my life… now it’s all bullshit and spicy thousand island. I love spicy food but don’t f*ck with my Reuben
It sure as shit ain't Biederman's since they sold it to a goyim.
Hey, goyim like reubens too. As long as they make it right.
I like the Bidermans Reuben. Not east coast good but still solid for Austin.
When was the last time you had it? It's changed.... A lot....
Ingredients taste about the same but the proportion of meat, sauerkraut, and bread has changed. Used to have massive amounts of meat, and now it disappears in the bread.
Exactly
I eat there regularly. I've never really thought it was anything special but it's solid for Austin.
Looks like colon cancer
What is the yellowbird sauce?
What
It’s mentioned several times on their website.
I mean, im assuming it's the pretty famous Austin texas hot sauce, yellowbird lol
WOW
Get the beer cheese soup!!!
Damn this looks incredible
COVER3/2 has a pretty good one, I am disappointed with Biederman's
