Take a look at the clip and get ready to enjoy The Blue Angels when it is released in IMAX theaters on May 17, and on Prime Video on May 23.

Why Blue Angels Is The Perfect Project For Glen Powell To Produce

Although Glen Powell has been a consistently working actor for over a decade, it was his performance as Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin in 2022’s review darling Top Gun: Maverick that catapulted him to greater fame. Given the exhilarating action and real stunt flying performed in Top Gun: Maverick, The Blue Angels looks like a natural continuation of the actor’s trajectory. Powell’s connection to flight extends beyond that impressive sequel, however, with other roles that demonstrate a passion for the subject on behalf of the actor.

The same year that Top Gun: Maverick was released, Powell co-starred in Devotion, which is based on the life of the U.S. Navy’s first Black pilot, Jesse Brown, and his wingman Tom Hudner (Powell). The true story of Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner was dramatized for the sake of the movie, but it gave Powell real-life knowledge about what it means to be a pilot. Perhaps aided by his experience filming the Top Gun sequel prior to signing on, Powell was a constant subject of praise in Devotion’s positive reviews.

Before either of those roles, Powell soared even higher. Powell provided some of the best Hidden Figures quotes during his performance as astronaut John Glenn in that movie, which told the story of the real-life mathematicians that made his space flight possible. As an actor who has not only had experience in a fighter cockpit, but has also spent time to understand those who push flight boundaries, Powell is a perfect partner in bringing the story of The Blue Angels to audiences worldwide.

The Blue Angels will be released in IMAX theaters on May 17 and on Prime Video on May 23.
