The Lioness is on the prowl for another season. The hit series from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan lands a renewal at Paramount+ and a slight name change.

Per TVLine, Special: Ops Lioness has officially been retitled to Lioness, with Season 2 of the spy thriller series confirmed at Paramount. The renewal comes eight months after Season 1 concluded last September, attracting mixed critical reviews but strong audience feedback (56% critic rating, 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes) after its release.

Paramount+'s programming EVP Jeff Grossman said in a statement, “Our Paramount+ audience resoundingly has joined forces in support of Lioness’ gripping, global story and the powerhouse performances from Zoë Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira and Nicole Kidman. We cannot wait to see more of the heart-stopping suspense and action that Taylor Sheridan and the incredibly talented team deliver in its second season." When Lioness debuted last July, the espionage series became Paramount+'s most-watched series premiere worldwide, attracting almost six million total viewers in its first week across the streamer globally and the Paramount Network.

What Happens in Lioness?

Lioness chronicles the story of Joe McNamara (Saldaña), a station chief balancing her professional and personal life as the face of the CIA's war on terror. In Season 1, Joe recruits Sergeant Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), a rookie operative, to befriend the daughter of a terrorist financier as the Lioness program looks to take down their intended targets. The series also features Kidman as Kaitlyn Meade, Joe's boss and a high-ranking CIA official, while Morgan Freeman appears as Edwin Mullins, the U.S. Secretary of State.

Sheridan has several TV shows in rotation along with Lioness. His Mayor of Kingstown series starring Jeremy Renner is set to launch Season 3 on Jun. 2 after the show was renewed last September by Paramount+. Additionally, Tulsa King, which features Sylvester Stallone, recently landed a Season 2 renewal at the streamer.

Meanwhile, Sheridan is working to finalize Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2, the final stretch of his acclaimed Western drama series. The second half of Season 5 had to work around the departure of its Golden Globe-winning lead actor, Kevin Costner, who left the show due, in part, to increased creative tensions with Sheridan. However, Costner has recently expressed interest in a return, despite scripts having already been written and filming due to start soon. Meanwhile, Sheridan is also preparing Season 2 of the Yellowstone spinoff, 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

No production or release window has been confirmed for Lioness Season 2. Fans can stream all eight Season 1 episodes via Paramount+.
