Last night, a fire destroyed a caravan parked in Liverpool city centre.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were alerted just before 10pm last night to an incident on York Street, off Duke Street.

One person at the scene told the ECHO he had heard a loud bang and came outside to see the caravan ablaze. Two fire engines arrived minutes later, temporarily blocking the road to cars.

One caravan and one bin, located in a small area between two buildings, were involved in the fire. One firefighter in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

Pictures taken on York Street at 10.20pm show the caravan in a ruined state with much of its body completely destroyed by the blaze as two firefighters worked to put it out.

Crews continued to damp down the scene for over two hours. Meanwhile, fire service personnel checked the adjacent buildings in case the smoke from the blaze had spread but gave the all-clear. The fire service left the scene at 12.32am.
