‘Sister Midnight’ Clip: First Look At Film4 And BFI Backed Mumbai-Set Comedy Debuting At Directors’ Fortnight

Sister Midnight

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first look at Sister Midnight, the Film4 and BFI-backed black comedy set to debut at this year’s Directors’ Fortnight.

The pic is the directorial debut of filmmaker Karan Kandhari. The film follows the journey of a small-town misfit (Apt). In a newly arranged marriage, she attempts to navigate an awkward spouse, nosy neighbors, and her own feral impulses. Protagonist Pictures will handle worldwide sales and launch the film at the Cannes Market.

“I hope people get to see this strange film to witness the wonder that is Radhika Apte. For me, she’s the closest thing to Buster Keaton or Toshiro Mifune reborn,” Kandhari told us of the film.

The Mumbai-set feature stars rising actor Radhika Apte and has been financed by Film4 and BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, and was produced by Alastair Clark for Wellington Films and Anna Griffin for Griffin Pictures with Alan McAlex and Filmgate Films.

Karan is best known for his short projects, which have screened in competition at festivals across the world, including the London Film Festival, Berlinale, the Melbourne International Film Festival, and Encounters Film Festival. His other work includes music videos directed for bands including The Vaccines and Franz Ferdinand.
