Bet Mark Twain was chuckling in his grave when this was released.
nah he was actually feeling proud others of others of others were profiting from his works, just like when people pay for old games sold on steam or very expensive used hardware.
Bet Mark Twain was sneedling in his grave when this was released.
Mark Twain was the original gamer
He didn't invent the gamer word. Books used to be a lot more raw back in the day. You'd be shocked at the kind of stuff you can find in old books. They didn't have political correctness back then.
It wasn't even derogatory back then. In fact the word was first used by '49ers to affectionately refer to each other, after grubbing in creeks for gold all day you'd be black as coal.
That’s funny, it gets posted in here all the time
IIRC the last third of the game is still untranslated.
Full translation when? This game seems neat, ive tried to fumble through it, but too much guessing when you cant read it.
He's a modern day warrior with mean mean stride
NO, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR RENT
NOT EVEN FOR ELEVEN CENTS
LIPS ARE TOO BIG ON THAT THERE GENT
OUT OF JAPAN, IT NEVER WENT
お生憎様
I need to play this. I hope it works well with Retroarch's translation tool but 8-bit games rarely do.
Okay I think we all see it, so I’m just going to say it. What the frick is that thing? You’re going to tell me Mr. S has never seen a slave before?
And does this game have anything to do with the book?
It is an RPG based fairly faithfully on the adventures in the book actually.
hello youtube
B L A C K F A C E
I just bought this game for $28 off Ebay from Japan, free shipping. Box, manuals, all included.
I'll post a thread when I receive it.
sometimes Japanese people's brains just don't quite work correctly
To them, black people basically are only known as savage rapists.
the way to express that in a drawing would be to make the dude look like a brutish ape, not to make him an inscrutable space alien
uncivilized prehumans/subhumans/whatever should look like monkeys, not like noseless kissmonsters from Beta Centauri
removing not only the character's humanity but also his resemblance to any earthly creature whatsoever is just a bad artistic choice
The big-lipped Sambo is a classic icon.
Could pick worse people to stereotype a nation in both cases.
It doesn't remove his humanity, you brainwashed non-human. It's a caricature intended to be lighthearted and humorous.
more like your doesn't
You're racist.
Did that sprite hit a little close to home, Shitavius?
Amy is cute. Was she in the book? I think I remember Tom had a gf but I don’t remember it being Amy. I thought it was Mary Jane or some shit.
You're probably thinking of Becky Thatcher.
That his lips occupy 3/4 of Jim's head we'll take as a given but why are they...striped?
chap stick wasn't invented until after 1900
Dry and crusty from the red hot African sun.
The two white characters look a bit off but I don’t see what the problem is here.
Are we even allowed to talk about Jogger Jim on this board?
His name is Jim, just Jim, with no title. That is how he’s referred to in Huckleberry Finn.

You got a censored version. My book copy says Black person Black person Black person just like Ganker.
Pics or gtfo
>POINT OF ORDER
Black person Jim was not a character in the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He is in Huckleberry Finn. If you want to get down to brass tacks about what Mark Twain was all about then you need to read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. It's about time travel, telephones, railroads, and guns.
Thank you for making me aware of this game. I will try it out someday.
>A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
Would be a good idea for a video game
Yep, too bad Sierra didn't do this during their golden age.
For some reason I read this as “A Confederate Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”
I get にげろ but what is こて?
you yell it in kendo when you attack
that's all i know
The most interesting thing about this game is that the box art looks like the game adaptation of an unproduced 52-episode adventure anime.
There was an anime Tom Sawyer right around this time.
HG Wells invented tabletop miniature wargaming.
Yeah the anime was a bit earlier but I’m sure it influenced the game.
8-bit Famicom or 8-bit Famicom, is it?
*or super Famicom
FRICK
Curiously the same year another Japanese Famicom Tom Sawyer game came out, by SETA. It was a side scroller.
Was the book popular in Japan?
Yes. It was translated before the war.
for me it's Snow White and the Seven Clever Boys
>it's real
>it's an official licensed game
YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP
>made by the dutch
You're stretching the definition of "official licensed game".
Actually, I prefer the non published Pitch Black and the Seven Big Honkies.
I wonder if Japanese people just assumed everyone in America was like Tom Sawyer, just like I assume all Japanese people are ninjas
Saying that this game is racist is like saying that the book is racist even though it's all about overcoming emancipation and overcoming prejudices
The book can afford to do that with words but the game not so much so it does what it can. Note that there is also another black character with normal lips.
This is too much to understand for a zoomer brain however who only knows to jump to conclusions without even delving into the matter. It's the same kind of people who claims that a Famicom game about the New York police is literally unplayable because all things are inherently political and this advocates corruption and violence. I wish I was making this up.
The re racism would have been excluding the black main characters from the story like the cartoon did.
