Bet Mark Twain was chuckling in his grave when this was released.

nah he was actually feeling proud others of others of others were profiting from his works, just like when people pay for old games sold on steam or very expensive used hardware.

Mark Twain was the original gamer

He didn't invent the gamer word. Books used to be a lot more raw back in the day. You'd be shocked at the kind of stuff you can find in old books. They didn't have political correctness back then.

It wasn't even derogatory back then. In fact the word was first used by '49ers to affectionately refer to each other, after grubbing in creeks for gold all day you'd be black as coal.

I need to play this. I hope it works well with Retroarch's translation tool but 8-bit games rarely do.

Okay I think we all see it, so I’m just going to say it. What the frick is that thing? You’re going to tell me Mr. S has never seen a slave before?
And does this game have anything to do with the book?

It is an RPG based fairly faithfully on the adventures in the book actually.

the way to express that in a drawing would be to make the dude look like a brutish ape, not to make him an inscrutable space alien
uncivilized prehumans/subhumans/whatever should look like monkeys, not like noseless kissmonsters from Beta Centauri
removing not only the character's humanity but also his resemblance to any earthly creature whatsoever is just a bad artistic choice

The big-lipped Sambo is a classic icon.

I wonder if Japanese people just assumed everyone in America was like Tom Sawyer, just like I assume all Japanese people are ninjas

Could pick worse people to stereotype a nation in both cases.

Are we even allowed to talk about Jogger Jim on this board?

      >POINT OF ORDER
Black person Jim was not a character in the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He is in Huckleberry Finn. If you want to get down to brass tacks about what Mark Twain was all about then you need to read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. It's about time travel, telephones, railroads, and guns.

Thank you for making me aware of this game. I will try it out someday.

His name is Jim, just Jim, with no title. That is how he’s referred to in Huckleberry Finn.

The most interesting thing about this game is that the box art looks like the game adaptation of an unproduced 52-episode adventure anime.

There was an anime Tom Sawyer right around this time.

Mark Twain was the original gamer

HG Wells invented tabletop miniature wargaming.

Yeah the anime was a bit earlier but I’m sure it influenced the game.

Saying that this game is racist is like saying that the book is racist even though it's all about overcoming emancipation and overcoming prejudices
The book can afford to do that with words but the game not so much so it does what it can. Note that there is also another black character with normal lips.
This is too much to understand for a zoomer brain however who only knows to jump to conclusions without even delving into the matter. It's the same kind of people who claims that a Famicom game about the New York police is literally unplayable because all things are inherently political and this advocates corruption and violence. I wish I was making this up.
The re racism would have been excluding the black main characters from the story like the cartoon did.
