Nationalists Set to Win North Macedonia Vote in Blow to EU Deal
- VMRO-DPMNE opposes constitutional deal with Bulgaria
- The Balkan country has faced setbacks in Western integration
North Macedonia’s main nationalist party claimed victory in the Balkan nation’s general election, opening the path for a coalition government that risks hindering already troubled talks on joining the European Union.
The VMRO-DPMNE — named after a revolutionary movement that fought for the land’s independence from the late 19th century - won 42% of Wednesday’s vote, according to partial results based on 75% of the ballots counted.
