Why Did Netflix Skip Benedict Bridgerton’s Season?
While we’ve not been given a definitive answer about why season three skipped over Benedict Bridgerton’s story, Showrunner Jess Brownell offered some insights.
“We’ve spent two seasons really getting to know Pen and Colin,” Brownell told Variety. “We’ve been watching Pen’s crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it. That’s a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change. This really felt like the right time to lean into what’s been set up with them.”
She continued, “On the Benedict side, he’s such a fun character and such a fan favourite that we are really excited to play with him for a little bit more and let him have more fun before he settles down.” That seems like confirmation that a Benedict-centric season is in the works, if you ask us.
What Is Benedict Bridgerton’s Storyline?
Assuming we do eventually see a Benedict Bridgerton season – and it follows the books – we can expect to see Benedict fall in love with Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl who has been made to be a servant by her stepmother. The pair cross paths at a masquerade ball and, in a Cinderella-style turn of events, Benedict becomes determined to uncover Sophie’s identity. Years pass and the pair come into contact again when Sophie is hired as a maid for Benedict’s sister, Violet. This proves the perfect place for their blossoming relationship and the rest, as they say, is history.
Who Will Play Sophie Beckett In Bridgerton?
The character of Sophie Beckett has so-far not been mentioned in Netflix’s Bridgerton adaptation, so all casting news is speculative. However, fans of the series have already begun theorising who will land the coveted role, with several pointing to South African actress Masali Baduza. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.

While it’s not 100% confirmed that season four will be about Benedict and Sophie’s love story. we do know the iconic series has been renewed for a fourth season. In April 2021, before season two dropped, Netflix confirmed that the series would be renewed for both season three and four. There’s no news on when season four will hit our screens.
