The series will connect to the events of ‘The Batman’
While ‘The Penguin’ and ‘The Batman’ may not belong to the mainline DCU, they do inhabit a shared cinematic universe. The forthcoming series is set to unfold just a week after the events depicted in the aforementioned movie. With Falcone’s demise and The Penguin striving to seize the power vacuum alongside Sofia Falcone, the narrative unfolds.
Farrell suggested that the series will delve into the character’s nuances, encompassing his awkwardness, strength, villainous traits, and inner turmoil, expanding upon his cinematic portrayal. Moreover, he hinted at the series’ penchant for extreme violence and darkness.

When the show was initially announced, it was disclosed that certain members of the movie’s cast would return to reprise their roles. The cast is presently quite expansive, with Mark Strong, known for his portrayal of Thaddeus Sivana in the DCEU, joining in an undisclosed role.

The show is targeting a release in the winter of 2024
Filming for the series began on March 1, 2023, in New York City with the working title Boss. Darran Tiernan served as the cinematographer for episodes directed by Zobel. Initially, planned filming locations included Silvercup Studios North in Queens and Westchester County, but the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike disrupted these plans. Production resumed in November after the strike ended, with filming locations shifting to the Bronx and Whitestone, Queens. Kelly finished filming his scenes by January 2024, and production wrapped on February 17.
‘The Penguin’ is scheduled to premiere on Max in late 2024, and consists of eight episodes.
