Hollis Clayton Peters

September 10, 1961 - May 3, 2024

Bro. Hollis Clayton Peters, Sr. was born sixth of six children on September 10, 1961, to the late Hollis Peters and Edgie L. Morris Peters.. The Lord called Hollis home on May 3, 2024 at the age of 62 years of age.

Bro. Peters was a member of Center Baptist Church where he remained faithful until he went to college, and relocated to Jackson, Ms. He united with the Magnolia Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. under the leadership of Reverend Samuel Alexander.

Clayton, as he was affectionately called by his classmates, graduated from the best class of Varnado High School, class of 1979. He was an excellent basketball player and received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Prentiss Junior College, where he majored in Physical Education and Recreation. He attended Prentiss Institute from August of 1979 until May 1981. Hollis earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Physical Education and Recreation. He continued to play basketball for the Alcorn Braves. While at Alcorn, Hollis was inducted into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in the Spring of 1982, on April 15, the 11 Strikes of Lighting line #6.

After graduation from Alcorn University, Hollis was employed by Jones Junior College as Head Basketball Coach. He was later employed at Mississippi State Hospital and worked there until December of 1989. He was hired in October 1995 at Hudspeth Regional Center(HCR) and worked at HCR 24 years, and he retired March 31, 2019. Hollis was also an entrepreneur and operated his Landscaping Business for over 30 years.

Hollis was a loving father. He gave his children a good life while he could and provided life lesson showing them how to work hard to get the things they needed and wanted in life. He was a true family man. He went beyond the call of duty for family, and he was the best fish fryer and turkey fryer a family could wish for!

Bro. Peters leaves to cherish his loving memories his three children- Keisha Jones(Michael Brockington), of Baltimore MD, Hollis C. Peters, Jr., and Jordan Peters both of Jackson, MS., four grandchildren- Jade Garcia, Leah Brockington, Michael Brockington, and Nori Brockington, all of Baltimore, MD, his siblings-Willie (Iness) Peters, Helen Weary, Theresa Peters, Donice Owens all of Angie, LA, three aunts- Ella Rose Morris Guider, Chicago, IL, Anita Morris of Varnado, LA., and Angela Morris of Hattiesburg, MS, one sister-in-law- Rosailean Peters, of Angie, LA., one brother-in-law-John L. Williams of Angie, LA., two special friends- Laetita Harris of Grenville, MS, Tonya Worthy of Jackson, MS, and a host of nieces,nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Bro. Peters was proceeded in death by his parents, Hollis Peters and Edgie L. Morris Peters, his maternal grandparents- Herman Morris and Oudie, his paternal grandparents-Willie Peters and Ardella Brown Peters, one brother- Jessie E. Peters, one sister-Linda Williams, one brother-in-law- Charles Weary Sr., two nephews- John Neal Williams and Darrick Williams, three aunts- Veola Smith, Olivia Sherdian, and Octavia Pigott, and seven uncles- Herman Morris,Jr., Charles Morris, Eugene Morris, Paul Morris, Anthony Morris, and Delaural Morris.

The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM on May 18, 2024 at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church in Angie, Louisiana.
