Weight Loss Story: The Covid-19 pandemic came as a shock in our lives. It was undoubtedly the most dreadful phase we’ve been through. From losing our loved ones to staying confined to our homes, it not only took a toll on our mental health but drastically affected our physical health too. It led to stressful situations leaving people overwhelmed. A lot of us started stress eating as it seemed to be the only way to manage it, and this is exactly what happened with Akshara who gained a lot of weight due to excessive stress during the pandemic.
“I gained a lot of weight because there was a lot of stress and it led to other health problems including anxiety, depression, sleep disorder and binge eating. I got hooked on eating junk as food was the only thing that made me happy during that tenure,” shares Akshara Ahluwalia.
Being overweight comes with a lot of self-doubt and low self-esteem. The 26-year-old weighed 80 kgs during the pandemic and never thought she would be able to lose weight. “I had zero self-confidence, no self-esteem and I never thought that I would be able to lose weight. I was like I am already 80kgs, 2 more kgs won’t harm” she said.
But as anxiety and overthinking started hampering her lifestyle, she decided to take a stand for it and get out of this vicious circle. “One day when I looked at myself in the mirror, I didn't like the way I looked so I decided to change myself, as I wanted to stop feeling vulnerable. Though I wasn’t motivated throughout my journey, when I started seeing the results, there was no looking back. I started working out to distract myself from the thoughts I was going through from anxiety but it gradually became a habit,” Akshara said.
It took Akshara 7-8 months to transform herself completely. From eating healthy to working out on a regular basis, she lost around 23 kgs and became unrecognizable. “It took me around 7-8 months to lose this much weight/ It is never about the weight loss but it is always about the lifestyle changes that you have to make in order to maintain your weight,” she said.
Biggest Challenges You Faced During Weight Loss Transformation Journey
“I feel that being a girl you have to go through a lot. Some days I didn’t feel like going to the gym, and constant criticism from society kept pulling my willpower down. But I decided to keep moving ahead no matter what. Hence, I ignored all the criticism to remain consistent with my diet and workout routine,” Akshara said.
Diet And Exercise Regimen You Followed During Your Transformation
“Initially I was on a low-carb diet, and I had joined the online MSB program on Boxfit. Their workout regime helped me a lot in losing weight. I kept a target to complete 10,000 steps a day no matter what,” Akshara mentioned.
To reduce food intake she drinks a glass of water before her meals which keeps her full and helps her control her diet. “As soon as I wake up I drink a glass of hot water with lemon or boiled jeera water. This works as a detox drink and has helped in enhancing my overall health,” she said.
“In order to maintain my weight, my workout routine includes strength training. Also, I keep a check on my protein intake. I only prefer having home-cooked food, and avoid junk food as much as I can,” Akshara further added.
What Inspired And Motivated You To Embark On This Journey?
“I went through a major heartbreak that just broke me completely. Hence, I wanted a change in myself, and this helped me push my limits and played a significant role in my weight loss journey,” Akshara said.
What Advice Do You Have For Others Who Are Looking To Embark On A Similar Transformation Journey?
“Just stay consistent, no matter what workout you choose, results take time, please be patient and take one step at a time,” she said.
How Has Your Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?
My health has improved, and I feel more confident about myself. This weight loss transformation journey has given me a new life altogether,” Akshara said.
