Strange game. Great start- good atmosphere ruined by VAR again. Poor at back. Zanka, Pinnock and Reguillon giving the goals away. By half time looking finished.
Great effort second half. Goal by Vitally. Amazing save by Pope from Toney, probable goal of the season by Wissa.
Shame we gave away the fourth.
Good reception for Thomas on 78.
Too many players off their game. If Zanka is good enough for next season we’re not looking forward.
I thought Mbuemo should have gone off instead of Wissa. Not really on it at all.
Still - entertaining second half. Fingers crossed for a decent summer of a few signings.
Didnt stay for the lap of honour. Couldn’t stand mixing it on the train with the skanky geordies.
You Beeeeeeesssss!!!!

what’s the point in 2 defensive midfielders?
didn’t stop them going through us with ease.
Damsgard deserved to start.

How does wissa get subbed before Toney?

We were 0.5 second off the pace defensively which was more than enough for them to score 3 EASY goals .
disappointing finish to the seasons but hey ho looking forward to next season. Let’s hopes we’ve learned lots from this one, that’s the most important thing for me.

I've learnt nothing today.

I knew ages ago that when you have an injury ravaged squad and many of those injuries in one area so that you have to adopt a formation based on the players available you may struggle.

Let's see what Phil Giles has up his sleeve and roll on August

They didn't have to break stride to score their 4 goals and we did. Sorry absolutely bonkers to drop Damsgaard and have both Norgaard and Vitaly in the same side together.

Good first 7 minutes then they just dominated the first half. Good comeback in the 2nd half and then TF just lost the plot a bit like Norwich at home a couple of season ago. Norgaard (instead of Vitaly) and Toney (instead of Wissa) should have been taken off. Why Sergio was taken off I will never know.

Disagree re fourth, spilled it straight in front of him

No he didn’t, I was right behind the taker and it was an excellent save, we only had 2 defenders on the pitch so nobody reacted to the rebound except their players.

He almost made a miracle save on the third one too.

Well if nothing else it was entertaining thanks to individual defensive errors. Thought we played OK and if we get it back to 3-3 could have been a grandstand finish. Toney unlucky with the disallowed goal and the brilliant save from his header, certainly put in a better shift than the previous few games. Ref very inconsistent - Wissa booking was a poor decision as he didn't appeal for a foul so not sure how he was diving.

Onwards and upwards to next season and hopefully being able to put out a consistent team.

Not worth reading too much into a game with nothing really riding on it. Nice to cheer a couple of really well taken goals though. Shame the Toney one was disallowed, I've not seen it but I'm guessing it was close given it took the VAR a minute or so to work it out. Different game if we're 1 up in 5 minutes.

Slight disappointment for me was that we changed too much after we'd bought it back to 2-3. We had the momentum and I think bringing on 2 forwards and removing 2 defensive minded players handed the initiative back to them.

A poor defensive performance after a tough slog of a season. Did well to get back into it. Need a recharge over Summer to get back to our best levels. To finish 13 points clear of relegation is a fine achievement given the injuries and bad luck we suffered throughout.

i didn’t even bother celebrating it. Looked a country mile off. Lino should have just put his flag up and saved us the bother.

He pushes it right back into the danger zone. Literally one of the first things they teach you not to do as a goalkeeper!

Not sure you can really blame the defenders for not standing exactly where he pushed the ball out to.

Disappointing today although I am sure the more rational amongst you will tell me it was a meaningless end of season game. Team selection appeased the need to play Toney and keep him on for the whole game but it is to the detriment of Wissa who has earned a chance to play down the centre and of Mbuemo who is stuck out too wide in a 3. Playing Norgaard and Janelt together in a 433 limits us going forward. Both are excellent but not together on this formation in my opinion. Damsgaard very unlucky not to start. Subs today were a nod to the crowd to say farewell to Neal and Samman. KLP would have been my choice to give us momentum and a threat in the final third.
No complaints about the result. The better team won. I was waiting for the onslaught when we got back to 2-3 but it never came. It doesn't matter I suppose but a bit disappointing nonetheless.

It was much more fun watching Newcastle when Mike Ashley owned them

Maybe we should have as they walked through us with ease to score all of their goals
433 and 451 are literally the same thing. The same way 352 and 532 are essentially the same. Having our wingers 5 yards deeper would not have prevented any of their goals

yes some very silly subs and going all out. We had the momentum and I was certain we would get it back to 3-3.

Sure I saw Tommy Smith after the game by the players entrance, was too eager to get to the train to double check, but 95% sure, anyone confirm??
Given that Tommy Smith died five years ago :( this is quite a sighting 👍👏

Disappointing end to the season and despite my massive man crush on Thomas he got it wrong today and Damsgaard should have started and either Christian or Vitaly shouldn’t have.
Wissa was MOM last week and did more in two cameo appearances than Ivan did in the last 180 minutes when he was awful. Why he wasn’t subbed is beyond me and actually annoyed me.

Another season to be grateful for and we’ll be stronger next season regardless of who else we bring in the summer.

Flat beer moment, Gods waiting room in the Dug out with people telling us, stop yelling at Tindall it’s only a game.

Please grow even more infirm and fragile in the close season and don’t come back and ruin the experience for fans with passion who ad requested by Thomas get behind their team

Yes we had 20 mins plus injury time and then on 74 mins we just overloaded our front line. We were doing well until then.

it’s happened before, Villa? and the momentum and shape just disappears.ads was doing well and so was Wissa.

it was a desperate set subs IMO.

Well said. Like you we both love TF but he got it wrong today. 100% agree.

Apparently there is so much that needs doing that it should be ‘obvious’
There is a lot to do this summer though, once Thomas has had a well-earned break. That's if we want to improve from 16th place. If we're happy to stay at 16th/17th, then probably less work!

65 goals conceded this year and quite a few of those were really sloppy. Yes - we had awful injuries, but with just Collins out today, I thought I'd been taken back in time 4 months when we were down to the bare bones. Ben Mee has another year with us, but I don't know if he'd have been significantly better than Zanka today. Ajer can't be relied upon to stay fit for more than a few games at a time. And we don't know if Rico will be the same player he was when he comes back. Christian N hasn't hit the heights of the past 2 seasons - just too easy to play through our midfield.

We conceded what I believe may be a record amount of points from winning positions this year. They weren't all down to injuries.

It will be very interesting to see what TF can do with a fully fit squad and whether some of the youngsters we have signed will start to come through and show whether they have what it takes. But we need to make ourselves much more difficult to score against, especially crosses into the box.

So yes - I'd say plenty to work on, but I'm delighted we have another season in the PL and we're lucky there were 3 such poor sides to go straight back down (two of whom beat us).

I’m glad it counted, but just watched the highlights and Toney is a mile offside when the ball is kicked to him to flick-on for the Wissa goal.. Had to watch it a number of times, asking how it was missed.

Am I missing something?

Just seen this - all their 4 goals could have beeb avoided as I thought. Surprised they didn't show us our disallowed goal. Wissa goal was better than I original thought.

There is no such thing as a meaningless PL game.

A far post header and two individual mistakes did for us in the end despite a worthy comeback. The story of our season in many respects. The better teams just don’t mistakes/ give the ball away as much as we did today. Missed Collins today I thought as well and not sure why Jensen started over Damsgaard.

As for Toney he did ok but thought for quite a while we play better without him. He needs to move on for all concerned.

Let’s hope with squad strengthening and everyone back fit we can go into next season on a roll.
