Sam Keeley has drummed up hope among fans that acclaimed RTÉ crime drama Kin will return for a third season.

Following the Kinsella family who are embroiled in gangland war, the series aired for two seasons with a stellar cast that included Aidan Gillen, Charlie Cox, Ciarán Hinds, and Emmett J. Scanlan.

Although RTÉ viewers lapped up the first two seasons, The Sun recently reported that the show has been 'cancelled' despite hopes for a third season.

Now, Sam has revealed he'd reprise his role as Viking 'in a heartbeat' if RTÉ were to commission a third season, but on one condition.

The Offaly native told RSVP magazine: 'There’s nothing on the cards for us right now, but I would do it in a heartbeat.'

A third season could very well be on the cards after the RTÉ series tapped into an entirely new fan base after launching on Netflix.

Sam admitted he'd love to see Viking get an ending 'fitting of his character' but that it 'wouldn't feel right' to return to the project, should the opportunity arise, without all the crew and remaining cast.

'It wouldn't feel great,' he admitted, adding that 'what makes the show so amazing' is the team behind-the-scenes as well as the cast at the forefront.

Hypothetically speaking (of course...), 'it would be hard' to make a third season if everyone didn't return,' Sam, who recently joined the cast of The Dry season two, explained.

Sam admitted that his interest in an upcoming project would piqued if it were to explore his 'live wire' character Viking more in depth, giving him a suitable ending.

Doubt was originally cast over Kin's future last year after Bron Studios, the production company and financiers of the show, filed for bankruptcy.

We're starting a petition for RTÉ to commission a third season- we must know the fate of the Kinsella clan!
