Fossil Ridge regional titles lead local qualifiers for Colorado girls golf state championships

Eleven local golfers and one Fort Collins-area team qualified for the Colorado high school girls state golf championships across classes 3A through 5A.

Regional tournaments were held this week around the state, and the two-day state tournaments for all classes will run Monday, May 20 to Tuesday, May 21.

The top two teams and top 13 individual golfers (who didn't already qualify with their team) from each region qualify for state.

Fossil Ridge led the way with a sweep of team and individual regional titles. Windsor and Timnath golfers also won individual regional championships.

Here's a look at all of the Fort Collins-area state qualifiers, plus format and site info for the state tournament:

Fossil Ridge sweeps regional titles

Fossil Ridge rolled to the 5A Northern Regional title with a team score of 229 (16-over par) to outpace runner-up Cherry Creek by seven shots at Coyote Creek Golf Course in Fort Lupton.

That qualified the SaberCats as a team for the 5A state tournament. They were all over the top of the leaderboard, scoring three top-10 finishes with all four Fossil golfers among the top 15.

Sophomore Abbi Beld also won the individual regional championship, shooting a 3-over 74 on a tough track.

Here are the other SaberCat scores and their finishes:

  • Richa Sajjan: 77 (T-4th)

  • Ellie Barry: 78 (T-6th)

  • Cailin Lowdermilk: 86 (14th)

Rocky Mountain golfer Samantha Orr also qualified as an individual with a score of 92 and a 13th-place finish in the 5A Western Regional at Arvada's West Woods Golf Club.

Windsor golfer wins 4A regional

The Wizards had the individual regional champion for the second year in a row in 4A Region 3 action at Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont.

Windsor's Macy Kleve was again the regional individual medalist, shooting a one-over 73 to run away from the field by four shots. The junior has already finished top-10 at the 4A state tournament in each of her first two years.

Windsor missed out on team qualifying with a score of 259, finishing third at nine shots back of second-place Riverdale Ridge.

One other Wizard qualified for state with a finish among the top 20 individuals:

  • Allison Sanger: 90 (T-12th)

Timnath golfer ties for regional title to lead 3A locals

Timnath golfer CheyAnne Schrick finished in a three-way tie for first place in 3A Region 3, leading three Fort Collins-area state qualifiers from the event.

The freshman closed strong, making a birdie and five pars in her final eight holes to share the regional title.

Joining her at the 3A state tournament are a pair of Liberty Common golfers who qualified individually. Here are those Eagles' scores and finishes:

  • Corah Clemmer: 90 (7th)

  • Keira Black: 98 (T-13th)
