Sting Concert in Dresden and late night travel to Berlin

Dear experts,

My family and I are in Berlin for 5 days, but 1 day on the 25th of May, we will be travelling to Dresden to watch Sting at Messe Dresden.

The concert begins at 8 PM. And I am guessing we will be there till approximately midnight

We would like to understand what options do we have to travel back to Berlin late night say after 11.30 PM? Is a late night train a good idea? Or should we book a bus, if possible? Or shall we crash at an affordable apartment for the night, and only travel back to Berlin the next morning?

Please do advise!

Thanks so much!

Check Bahn.com if any of the long 7 hour connection in regional trains would work or if Flixbus works

Another option could be to rent a car and drive instead of taking the train, or as mention to stay the night

there is surprisingly no direct train connection after about 8pm but theres a flixbus at 11.40pm which seems to fit your schedule perfectly. Check flixbus.de for tickets.

If you want to stay in Dresden any later then you will need to hire a car or stay overnight

Just note, when they say the concert starts at 8 theres a very good chance it will start at 8.

If you could drive then it might be worth considering. I see an astra or golf estate for just 40Euro via https://www.autoeurope.de/ (collection and drop off at the airport, but if you have a weekly ticket for Berlin then travel there is for "free") and for a few euros of diesel and maybe 10Euro for parking, you get to Dresden and back with no worries about the concert running late and missing a bus

Your only option at that time of night will be Flixbus. They have a few services in the early hours and through the night to Berlin.

I'd be inclined to look at staying somewhere local. The flixbus that originate from Prague at those hours tend to be (though not entirely) at two hour intervals. You could have a long wait + arriving back in Berlin at some awful hour. I would expect any Messe concert to be completed by 23:00 very latest.

Bear in mind bus departures originating from and travelling to international destinations leave from the Ammonstraße bus park due to construction work at the Hauptbahnhof. This is one station closer to the Messe on Line Number 10 so no inconvenience. The Ammonstraße Tram station is next to the bus park.

To add:

Were you to consider the 23:40 Flixbus departure from Ammonstraße, the last Tram departure to be certain of making that bus would be 22:55. The next departure at 23:25 would get you there about three minutes prior to departure - far too risky. For events at Messe 1 the DVB rarely operate extra services so tram demand would be heavy and in the scrum to get on you 'might' struggle to gain entry. Make sure you get on that tram at the very latest! Somehow.

Whilst the local transport authority will lay on extra trams for certain events such as the upcoming Rammstein concerts in the field across the street, every event I've ever attended at Messe 1 there has been no extra services. After 22:25 the frequency drops right off. The schedule for the 25th makes no mention of extra services.

I'm not trying to be intentionally doom n gloom but the above are factors to consider when making your decision.

Stay in Dresden overnight. There are no train connections to Berlin at that time of night any more. They all involve several hours of waiting time somewhere, and it will get pretty chilly in the middle of the night.

Thank you so much for responding.

Renting a car and driving might not be a good idea for us, since we are from India, and we are accustomed to driving on the left side of the road.

For now we have gone ahead and booked tickets on the 11.40 Flix bus. And keeping our fingers ( and also toes!) crossed. :D
