Although it may have fared enough to make up for any losses, Morbius is still unarguably one of the most critically panned movies of all time from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite holding hot talents like Michael Keaton, Tyrese Gibson, and Jared Leto, the film still underperformed among viewers because of things ranging from its storyline to the character arcs to not delivering perfectly.

That being said, one of the major reasons why the film failed to serve its audience’s expectations was because it cut off some of those brutal scenes that could have garnered a lot of fan support. One of these included Gibson’s crazy fight scene as well, which was shown in the trailer but never made it to the final cut — something that inevitably left even the actor disappointed.

Tyrese Gibson’s “Crazy” Fight Scenes Were Slashed From Morbius

Back when Morbius initially hit the theatres in 2022, fans knew something was missing. Perhaps that something was Tyrese Gibson‘s crazy fight scenes with his metallic arm that was definitely shown in the trailer but was, for some reason, left behind when it came to the final cut of the movie.

During a recent interview with CBR, the 2 Fast 2 Furious actor talked about the same, saying”

“I had a full-on fight, and brawl, with the villain, Matt Smith. I had a full-on fight scene with Matt Smith in London, where we filmed at a park, and it was crazy. And my arm was all over that scene.”

A full-blown fight scene with Matt Smith‘s Milo where Gibson’s Simon Stroud sported his metallic arm?! That sounds epic, no doubt. But then why would the studios decide against including it when it could have delivered one of the best scenes in the entire movie?

As it turns out, even Gibson doesn’t know. He said:

“I guess the presence of my arm, you wouldn’t have been able to edit around that. […] It felt like it went from ‘This is what we’re going to do,’ to some type of issues that they had in post-production. Something. I don’t know. I definitely did a lot of scenes that was chopped out of the movie.”

In fact, the Baby Boy star even asked around the reason behind this, and came to know that “it wasn’t chopped because of the running time.” So why, exactly?

“I don’t know,” he continued. “The arm was in the trailer, and I definitely had to put that thing on for at least two to three hours a day in the make-up trailer, so, I don’t know.”

Well, needless to say, this one decision from the studios most certainly seems to have cost them their entire movie because, judging from the way he described it, those scenes would have been nothing short of a few minutes of pure cinematic excellence that could have saved the film.

That said, even Gibson was left disappointed by this one decision from the studios. But what’s surprising is that he would still want to return to the saga if he gets the call for a sequel!

Nonetheless, Tyrese Gibson is Still Waiting on a Second Run for Morbius

Continuing in the interview, the Fast & Furious actor also shared how this unfortunate turn of events left even him disappointed. He said:

“I was very disappointed that they chopped that scene, but, you know, look. […] I’m in every single scene every day, so I’m grateful for whatever I end up with. But, I definitely wish that that fight scene had made the movie. It was crazy.”

Despite this, Gibson is still “waiting on the call” for a second run of the Morbius lore. If anything, he claims he “would be honored to dance with Daniel Espinosa and the crew again, [and] Jared Leto, yeah, I would love it. I would love it if that opportunity presented itself, yeah.”

Well, for now, we guess we’ll just let him dream about it more because a sequel to the Jared Leto-starrer doesn’t quite seem to be something that Sony would want to take on after the massive disappointment the first film was among fans.

Still, fans can stream Morbius on Disney+.
