Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day slams Sean 'Diddy' Combs for 'disingenuous' apology video

Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’ Day is not impressed by the apology video from her former record label boss, Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Days after the release of a resurfaced 2016 video — where Combs is captured physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura — he took to Instagram to say “sorry” and take “full responsibility” for his behavior. O’Day wasted no time criticizing his response on social media.

"Diddy did not apologize to Cassie,” O’Day wrote on X. “He apologized to the world for seeing what he did.”

Along with her words, O’Day included a photo of the blanket statement that Combs pinned to his social media accounts, denying multiple sexual assault allegations leveled against him from Ventura and other alleged victims.

O’Day continued, “He says he’s ‘disgusted w himself now, and he was disgusted w himself then’.. but apparently he wasn’t disgusted enough w himself to not PIN this statement out calling her a liar & denying all of it. Leave god and mercy out of this, they aren’t present here, and you know it.”

In a followup on Instagram, O’Day added, “You know you aren’t right within when you go from pinning a statement of your innocence in caps locks to a quick delete & replace with a disingenuous monologue of your disgust of yourself. Just take the Instagram down until you are ready to let people see who you really are. Until you really can admit to yourself who and what you are.”

O’Day spent several years working with the media mogul who formed Danity Kane during the third iteration of MTV’s Making the Band in 2004. The girl group included O’Day, Aundria Fimbres, Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgett, Shannon Bex and Dawn Richard. They signed to Combs’ label Bad Boy Records and achieved success with their hit singles “Showstopper” and “Damaged” before disbanding in 2009.

Combs is currently embroiled in controversy, which hit a peak when Ventura filed a lawsuit in 2023 accusing him of sexual assault and years of physical abuse. Combs denied all of the allegations the day the lawsuit surfaced, and he and Ventura settled the suit the following day. In the aftermath of Ventura's claims, several other accusers sued Combs, who has consistently denied the allegations.

In response to the initial lawsuit, O’Day wrote on Instagram, “Been trynna tell y’all for years. Prayers up for this queen @cassie.”

In a separate statement to Rolling Stone, she expressed her "full support of Cassie,” adding, “It isn’t easy to take on one of the most powerful people in this industry and be honest about your experience with them. I know what her heart is feeling right now, because I have done so as well. May her voice bring all the others to the table, so we can start having more transparent conversations about what is actually happening behind the scenes.”
