A sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently in development, though it remains unclear which other characters from the world of Nintendo will pop up in the new film. There's a good chance Wario will come along, and Danny DeVito would be up for lending his voice to the character.

In an interview with The Movie Dweeb on YouTube, DeVito spoke about how he's rumored for various roles. This goes from playing a live-action Phil in Disney's Hercules remake to appearing in the long-gestating sequel Lethal Weapon 5. When asked specifically if he'd be up for playing Wario in a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, DeVito offered an optimistic response, suggesting he's open to any of these possible roles. However, perhaps by considering how much money the first film made at the box office, DeVito said he'd want a lot of money to play Wario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
