DES MOINES, Iowa — On Monday, Iowa’s top prosecutor was in New York City to support former President Donald Trump in the ‘hush money’ trial.

“And what I saw in that courtroom today is a travesty,” said Bird (R). “Politics has no place in a court of law. Politics should be out on the campaign trail. But instead, because of these charges that are a scam and a sham, he, our President Trump is tied up in court when he should be out on the campaign trail. And I worry for the future of our country if this is the direction that campaigns are going to take.”

Bird has filed lawsuits on behalf of the state against the Biden administration since she got into office. She said on Monday that the administration knows they can’t beat the former president in the upcoming election and are instead relying on the courts.

“When Biden knows that he cannot defeat President Trump, so instead they try to charge him with all of these ridiculous things that include a witness who’s a perjurer, disbarred, convicted of lying, it tells us the state we are in this country right now. And that’s what’s happening. What we need to do is get politics out of the courtroom and let President Trump get back on the campaign trail.”

Iowa Democrats reacted to Bird’s trip to New York, questioning whether Iowans’ tax dollars were used to fund the trip.

Iowans deserve to know whether their hard-earned money is going to a political photo op 1,100 miles from the State Capitol. Even more so, Iowans deserve an Attorney General that’s focused on serving her constituents – not her political ambitions.
