If there’s one thing that’s missing in the local Honda lineup, it’s a van. Yes, there’s the Odyssey, or rather, there was the Odyssey. First sold here in the ‘90s, it made a comeback in the 2010s with two more generations offered locally from 2013 to 2021. Since there, there hasn’t been a Honda with sliding doors.

At the moment, there are two ways to get three-row seating from Honda, namely with the BR-V and CR-V. But wouldn’t it be nice if there was an extra option? Ladies, gentlemen, and parents, we’d like to present to you the 2025 Honda Freed.

The Freed has been part of Honda’s Japanese lineup since 2008. Now in its third generation, it follows the form of the previous models by being based on the same chassis used in the current Jazz, City, and HR-V. The all-new Honda Freed also features a boxier, more angular look, similar to the much larger StepWGN, another van we’d love to see here someday. As always, the short hood means even more space for the passenger area at the back.

There are no specifics just yet, but Honda has released key details about its minivan. For starters, there are two design packages to choose from. The first one is called the Air and sees a smooth and minimalist exterior design. The other is called the Crosstar, giving the minivan a more butch appearance with additional body cladding, a unique front end, different wheels, and, more importantly, even more ground clearance.

Inside, the dash has been pushed back to give more cabin room. The dash itself comes with a variety of cubby spaces for added practicality and versatility. At the center is a massive screen and, below it, a pod that houses all basic controls. We’re also glad to report that there are good ol’ buttons in there. Available in either five or six seater configurations, the center aisle is clear of any obstructions to make it easier to move around.

As for dimensions, it’s expected to be slightly larger than the outgoing Freed. For reference, that one measured 4,295 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, and 1,735 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,740 mm. Those numbers make it slightly smaller than the BR-V, but the Freed’s layout and design means there is much more passenger and cargo space inside.

For now, at least, the sole powertrain option is Honda’s e:HEV hybrid system. The official numbers have yet to be released, but there’s a good chance that it will share the same mechanicals as the hybrid versions of the Jazz, City, and HR-V. If so, we’re expecting a 1.5-liter engine mated to single electric motor for a combined output of 129hp and up to 253Nm of torque.
