After Roman Reigns became a singles competitor back in 2014, WWE began his push that would, in their eyes, make him the next face of the company. However, the forced push before he was ready led to fans turning on Reigns, leading a regretful babyface run that still stings. Following his loss of the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, WWE’s now number one heel is on an absence from programming, though his return is inevitable at some point in the next few months. When he does finally come back, Reigns will become the top face that WWE always envisioned, and the dreams of the company will finally be realized.

Roman Reigns’ Original Babyface Run In WWE Failed

The Fans Hated Roman Reigns Being Pushed On THem

  • WWE primed Roman Reigns to be the next face of WWE.
  • The audience rejected Reigns as a top babyface in the company.
  • WWE persisted with pushing Reigns despite the fans’ disapproval.

In 2014, the WWE fans were not ready to accept Roman Reigns as the next big babyface star in the company, especially since there were other names like Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose who were more naturally over with the audience. Reigns was presented in quite a generic and cheesy way, with WWE trying to replicate some of what John Cena was, and it failed. Reigns did not have the charm at the time to pull it off, and everything he did felt overly forced. Despite WrestleMania main events and championship wins, the fans hardly ever warmed to Reigns or treated him with any love or respect.

WWE were relentless though, continuing his push in the hopes that someday it would click. It never did, and all the way up until 2020 this failed project kept plowing on. The pandemic led to Reigns taking a break from WWE, and he returned as heel for the first time in over six years. Instantly, Reigns looked comfortable in himself, he was natural on the microphone, and he looked like an absolute star. His presence was undeniable, and for the next four years he dominated WWE as the top heel with a 1316-day reign as world champion, cementing himself as the number one guy in WWE. With his stock back intact and his status as a star confirmed, it is finally time for a babyface turn.

The New Bloodline Have Set The Stage For Roman Reigns’ Babyface Run In WWE

WWE Have Started What Will Become A Bloodline Civil War

  • Solo Sikoa has taken the role of Tribal Chief.
  • Fans have been chanting for Roman Reigns since WrestleMania.
  • Roman Reigns' return will automatically make him babyface.

Ever since WrestleMania, Solo Sikoa has created a “new” Bloodline with Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, with the expected debut of Jacob Fatu in those ranks at some point too. One theory is that The Rock is behind this “new” Bloodline, which all naturally lead to Roman Reigns returning to take on this reimagined version of the faction he created. Sikoa’s current Bloodline is getting a lot of heat from fans, with it being far less cool and likable than the former Bloodline. This in itself has led to chants of “We Want Roman” and a buzz for his comeback.

It will be very easy for Reigns to instantly be a face, and other factors such as admitting his faults and apologizing to Jey Uso, giving respect to Jimmy Uso, and perhaps even making amends with Sami Zayn, will ensure that fans continue getting back on his side. Reforming the original Bloodline is a clear way to bring about love from the audience due to how entertaining they’ve been for so many years at this point. The Bloodline Civil War could carry WWE throughout the rest of 2024 and into 2025, where WWE will finally be able to have their long-awaited dream WrestleMania main event.

Roman Reigns’ Run As A Babyface Will Work This Time Around

Roman Reigns' Heel Run Has Been Important In Saving His WWE Career

  • Roman Reigns has proven his talent and WWE fans now respect him.
  • Roman Reigns taking down The Rock has always been WWE’s long-term plan.
  • The fans won’t turn on Roman Reigns again.

There may be some worry that Reigns will be rejected as a babyface again, but at this point, it just won’t happen. Over the last four years, Reigns has become completely comfortable, he has a cool aura about him, and he is too big of a star now for the audience to go against him. In this new era of WWE, the fans buy into a well-told story and character arc without turning on characters or wrestlers like they might’ve done in the past, and if done well, Reigns’ babyface turn will be a surefire success.

Additionally, The Rock’s heel turn has done wonders for WWE, and it now makes all the sense in the world to pull the trigger on The Rock vs. Roman Reigns for WrestleMania. Reigns can finally get the big babyface win over The Rock which has been in WWE’s plans for years, and it will finally not feel forced. WWE opted for the route of a longer-term story and build, rather than hot-shotting a quick money main event. Reigns beating The Rock as a babyface will cement his legacy for good, and he will finally become the number one babyface WWE always wanted him to be. It might’ve taken a long road to get there, but the company is not far off it now.
