Is it not weird to see Dougie Howser, MD as the Toymaker?

I've seen him in a lot of other roles since then. The man certainly has talent.

I love him! Just seeing him getting older reminds me that I'm not not 19 anymore (when Doogie Howser came out). That's all.

OTOH, when I talk to some of my friends and they talk about their adult kids when I remember them being pregnant, I get the same feeling.

Plus AARP is now starting to send me mail. I'm feeling some kind of way about that too.

Eh. There were all those years he played a New York douchebag man-slut.

He's also well-known off-screen as an amateur magician. So, Toymaker fit.

I'd say Count Olaf was ideal preparation for the role too. He's such a childish troll, but also fully capable of killing lovable secondary characters.

I never did watch HIMYM. Oddly. Maybe an episode or two.

He really owns the role. I see nothing but the character he is playing.

Same but... I just remember him as a kid!

Looking at him reminds me that I'm... no longer young. šŸ˜

I did not watch Doogie Howser much when it was on, but him and I are close to the same age.

It's cool to see him still kicking it and still doing new things.

He's in also my age-range (maybe a couple years younger?).

It's actually great to see when child/young adult actors flourish in their careers (there are so many that end badly... i.e., all the kids from Different Strokes). And NPH seems to have done very well and I love that for him.

But it's just (for me) weird. But in a good way. He was perfect as the Toymaker.

It makes sense Count Olaf would become an unhinged god of play.

Same with Captain Horrible. You donā€™t become an unhinged god without a PhD in horribleness.

Olaf? Was that his name?

That explains St. Olaf and why they're not too bright (Golden Girls reference).

No. Love NPH. thrilled he's the Toymaker.

He did a fantastic job, do not misunderstand me. Just as he's done with every role since that show.

I just will always see him Dougie Howser, MD, the the brilliant teenage doctor.

Plus he's got some wrinkles, which is now making me look in the mirror. It unsettles me.

It's just weird to see Dr Barney Horrible do it

Ik you didn't ask but I want to highlight that Barney Stinson being the Toymaker makes way too much senseĀ

he was my first medical show, followed by M*A*S*H, ER, and House.

I loved House (almost surprised now that Hugh Laurie never did Dr. Who).

Nope because he's an incredibly talented actor who's been in a lot of things since.

Barney Stinson as The Celestial Toymaker, however, is entirely TOO believable... >:D

Doogie, Quantum Leap, Starship Troopers, Harold and Kumar, How I Met Your Mother, various award shows and movies. Heā€™s just an actor Iā€™m used to popping up every few years.

I forgot he was in Starship Troopers.

I've seen him all over the place too, but he'll always be Doogie to me.

Which Quantum Leap was he in? The original?

He was a 1950s frat bully that Sam had to stop from doing dangerous drag races in ā€œThe Return of the Evil Leaperā€ season 5 episode

Ohhh, I need to rewatch that (pretty sure I watched it at the time).

You mean the Music Meister?

Is it not weird to see Dougie Howser, MD as the Toymaker?

Maybe if I slipped into a coma in the early 90s and woke up last year it would seem weird.

His presence in entertainment has been fairly prominent since Doogie Howser.

The thing that feels weird to me is to see well known American actors in Doctor Who and seeing Doctors and companions in popular American productions.

The only time before now that I saw anything like that was the 2nd Doctor playing a priest in the Omen.

He's one of my least favorite actors, ever since his Doogie days, so I mostly just think, "Ugh."

I amā€¦ not quite old enough ( it came out right before I was born or when I was really small I think) I donā€™t think. But I have gone back and watched an episode or two. Itā€™s super weird.

But I know him from drum roll not how I let your mother but the musical he did with Nathan Dillion and Felicia Day. The name escapes me but thatā€™s where I know him from
