Evening Walk - Jack & Jill to Lower Standean (3-4miles)

Details

Meet (to leave) at the car park at the Jack and Jill windmills, Clayton, at 6:30. I will only wait a short time (5-10 mins) because we need to get around with the light / any return bus goers and pub stop (we could go to the Jack and Jill inn at the end if people like)

A walk down to lower standean and back up along the Ditchling Beacon to Clayton path (South Downs Way). Takes about 1 hour 45mins - 2hrs at a moderate pace. If we go quick we may be able to make it to the Chattri memorial. Anyone coming from Brighton maybe you can get a lift by messaging in the comments, assuming a decent turnout, if we cut it a bit fine to get the last bus back from the pub (see time below)

A video I shot last year with my drone with some of the route to a bit of Rachmaninov : https://youtu.be/GYVNwfJH2ds?si=jd0izVOtk8hSOutg

Any questions please private message me on Meetup or add comments in the walk description on Meetup.

End time is an approximation.

By Car
Drive to the car park at the turn off to Jack and Jill Inn windmills, Clayton. I’ll be driving there.

By Bus (subject to individuals checking times etc)
- GOING : From near The Level take the 271 bus at 17:49 to the Jack and Jill Pub at Clayton. Gets in at 18:08. Then walk back on yourself up the hill to the turn off - Jack and Jill windmills (signposted). I think the bus starts south at the old steine but I used the Rome2Rio website not metrobus, so check that… Get off as you come down the hill over the Clayton tunnel where the Jack and Jill Inn is, or you may be able to get off earlier but check that! Bus stop right outside the pub.

- COMING BACK : at 20:48 from the bus stop outside the Jack and Jill Inn, take the 272 bus back to Brighton Old Steine.

Dogs
Welcome, but I think some sheep and cow fields so bring a lead if you don’t use leads.

Footwear
Good walking boots or trainers needed as always, and gaiters if it gets muddy.

Cancellation
Bad weather or rain all evening and I will reschedule so check the Meetup page a few hours before start time (and before you leave!) for any updates. Also if not enough attendees - min of 4 including me.
