Big Ten Newcomer Ranked As Conference’s Top Quarterback For 2024
The quarterback position is arguably the toughest and most important position in all of sports. It's almost impossible to win anything without having good quarterback play.
There might not be a conference that is better suited for that than the Big Ten conference. A big reason why is because of all of the teams they’ve added this year. The transfer portal has helped as well.
According to 247Sports‘ Big Ten quarterback power rankings, Oregon Ducks’ quarterback Dillon Gabriel took the top spot. The former UCF Knights and Oklahoma Sooners signal-caller has thrown for 14,865 yards, 125 touchdowns and only 26 interceptions in his career. He is currently sitting at No. 8 all-time in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
He is 4,353 yards away from being the all-time passing leader and only 31 touchdowns shy of being the all-time touchdowns leader. But he's not the only newcomer on the list. In fact, six of the top seven quarterbacks are new to the conference. That includes one of the most sought-after transfers, Will Howard who transferred from Kansas State to Ohio State.
He's coming off a really solid season where he threw for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also ran for 351 yards and added nine rushing touchdowns. He's hoping to give the Buckeyes what they were lacking last season.
The top seven quarterbacks according to the power ranking is Gabriel at No.1 followed by Penn State quarterback Drew Allar followed by Howard followed by USC quarterback Miller Moss followed by Washington quarterback Will Rogers followed by Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola and then lastly Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.
I don’t have any problems with that rankings and I think Gabriel being at the top is a big reason why so many people are so high on Oregon this upcoming season. Still, it’s weird to say “the Big Ten” and “Oregon” in the same sentence. It doesn’t feel right. But that’s the new era of college football.
