Coming July 23rd!
https://kinolorber.com/product/underground-aces Underground Aces (1981) Brand New HD Master From a 2K Scan of the 35mm Interpositive NEW Audio Commentary by Horror-Fix.coms James G. Chandler and Ash Hamilton Limited Edition O-Card Slipcase Optional English Subtitles Color 95 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated PG Dirk Benedict (TVs The A-Team), sexy Melanie Griffith (Cherry 2000) and Frank Gorshin (TVs Batman) star in this zany romantic comedy from director Robert Butler (Up the Creek, Turbulence). Deep below a posh Beverly Hills hotel youll find the Underground Acesa fun-loving, fast-driving, slightly larcenous team of car-parking jockeys. Life in the underground parking lot is far from dull. Theres soccer, for a startplayed with a giant weather balloon and two sports carsthen theres false fire alarms, a kidnapping on horseback and a lovesick sheik to contend with. When the Aces aim to instruct the sheik in the intricacies of American-style romance, their scheming goes a bit too far and what started as a little simple matchmaking turns into an all-out riot complete with high-speed chasesand even a trained housefly. Underground Aces has got to be one of the funniest, wackiest, warmest films youll ever see! The amazing supporting cast includes Michael Winslow (Police Academy), Robert Hegyes (TVs Welcome Back, Kotter), Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses), Jerry Orbach (TVs Law & Order), T.K. Carter (Runaway Train), Randy Brooks (Reservoir Dogs), Audrey Landers (TVs Dallas) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters). 738329267186.jpg |

Coming to Blu-ray July 9th from Kino Classics and the F.W. Murnau Foundation!
Carmen (1918) Starring Pola Negri and Harry Liedtke Directed by Ernst Lubitsch Pre-order: https://kinolorber.com/product/carmen Polish-born actress Pola Negri was already popular when she began appearing in German silents in the 1910s, but it was her collaborations with Ernst Lubitsch that transformed her into a silver screen goddess, a mesmerizing presence as formidable in comedies (The Wildcat) as in tragedies (Madame Dubarry). Released in the U.S. as Gypsy Blood, Carmen retells Prosper Merimes classic tale of a Romani woman who seduces a military officer and sends each of them on a trajectory of dramatic self-destruction. Restored in 4K by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, Carmen features a lively score by Tobias Schwenke, performed by the orchestral ensemble Kontraste. SPECIAL FEATURES *Audio commentary by film historian Anthony Slide *Short documentary on the film's restoration (5 min.) *Silent with German intertitles and optional English subtitles CARMEN blueband.jpg |

UNDERGROUND ACES (1980) was released on VESTRON VIDEO, circa 1985, and by the '90s disappeared from view for a long time as it was not released on DVD and virtually forgotten . . . until now.
When 'brick-and-mortar' video stores started selling off their ex-rentals in the 1990s a lot of obscure movies were subsequently no longer available for the public to rent and disappeared into the Video Abyss. But now in 2024 . . . The ♣♠ UNDERGROUND ♣♠ has ♦RESURFACED♦! ---------------------------- Another movie I can think of released on VHS in the early 1980s (by VCI Communications, Inc), but never released on DVD and then ~was~ issued on Blu-Ray was the 1979 horror anthology SCREAMS OF A WINTER NIGHT. Can't think of any other movies offhand which were released on VHS "back in the day", skipped DVD and then materialized on Blu-Ray. UNDERGROUND ACES and SCREAMS OF A WINTER NIGHT are all I can think of at present. Gotta be a few more titles than that, I would think, but I'll be darned if I can come up with any more. --------------------- ALSO: Director ROBERT BUTLER only died 7 months ago. He was 95 when he died in early November 2023 -- just a couple of weeks shy of his 96th birthday. He also directed some Disney movies from 1969-78 + UP THE CREEK (1984), NIGHT OF THE JUGGLER (1980) and TURBULENCE (1997). He did a lot of directorial chores in TV, too. -------------------- Trivia Nuggets: Another director who died not too long ago was 'Elliott Silverstein', who helmed "Cat Ballou", "The Car", "A Man Called Horse" and "The Happening", among others. He passed on in late November 2023 at age 96. THE HAPPENING (1967) has never had any kind of homevideo release, to date. It has aired on Turner Classic Movies at least twice in the past few years, but no "physical media" release yet. → Perhaps a similar circumstance to REMEMBER MY NAME (1978-Drama) -- which has aired multiple times on Turner Classic Movies over the years but due to music rights issues has never been released on any homevideo format? Maybe The Supremes song from "The Happening" has kept it from a physical media release due to expensive licensing issues? Just a thought. I really don't know. Φ The more 'CATALOG TITLES' Kino-Lorber issues the better. |

@JOBLA: I wish I could think of a few more. I like this kind of 'homevideo trivia'.
I could only think of one other title: The 1970 British seriocomedy THE MAN WHO HAD POWER OVER WOMEN was issued on Blu-Ray in England as a limited release of sorts, apparently. I forgot the video label that issued it offhand. But it was never released on DVD anywhere. MAGNETIC and EMBASSY both put the movie out on VHS, but the MAG tape was a Tv print missing the [R]-rated footage. Last edited by CMG; 05-17-2024 at 06:43 AM. |

Neither of these sold well enough to release on 4K, And Soon the Darkness sold well, Sudden Terror (Eyewitness), less.
But we will continue with this series, if this first one does well. We will also remove 1970s from the final art, so we can include titles from the 60s and 80s. 738329267223_Back.jpg Last edited by Kino Lorber Insider; 05-17-2024 at 05:52 PM. |
