Luton Town vs Fulham: Preview, predictions and lineups

Luton Town will hope to achieve the near-impossible on Sunday and avoid relegation from the Premier League when they battle Fulham on the final weekend of the season.

The Hatters have made an admirable fist of their first campaign in the Premier League but unless they win and Nottingham Forest lose with a huge swing in goal difference, Rob Edwards’ side will be playing in the Championship again next term.

They have a decent chance of victory against the Cottagers, who have slipped to 14th after an impressive first half of the season and struggle away from home.

Here’s 90min’s preview ahead of the action at Kenilworth Road in Gameweek 38.

Luton’s chances of achieving an unlikely massive victory are dented by their lengthy injury list, with seven players unavailable for manager Edwards. Among them are Issa Kabore, Amari’i Bell, Tom Lockyer and Marvelous Nakamba.

Ross Barkley will have to be assessed before the Hatters make a decision on his fitness. The former Everton midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season.

Luton Town predicted lineup vs Fulham (3-4-2-1): Kaminski; Burke, Mengi, Osho; Ogbene, Lokonga, Barkley, Doughty; Chong, Morris; Adebayo.

Centre-back Issa Diop is suspended after being sent off in the defeat to Manchester City last week, so USMNT international Tim Ream is likely to fill in.

Midfielder Sasa Lukic is a doubt but Marco Silva has an otherwise healthy cohort of players to choose from, with the likes of Rodrigo Muniz, Willian and Joao Palhinha all eager to end the season on a high.

Fulham predicted lineup vs Luton Town (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Ream, Bassey, Robinson; Iwobi, Palhinha; Cordova-Reid, Pereira, Willian; Muniz.

Luton can afford nothing less than a huge victory if they are to preserve their Premier League status, but realistically the chance to remain in the top flight has been and gone.

They may have ideal opposition in Fulham, who can finish no higher than 12th and are winless in their last four league games. The Cottagers may not put up the biggest fight and could slip to a tenth away league defeat of the season.

However, the required permutations are just too big for Edwards’ side to hit to stay up. However, they could yet win to sign off from their brief return to the top flight in style.

Prediction: Luton Town 2-1 Fulham
