Prior to Trump's appearance at the RNC, Matt Lauer interviewed the couple on their private plane. It seemed like Trump was turning red at Melania's words. We'll reveal what was said, and why Lauer received criticism for his involvement with the Trumps.

Melania Wanted To Save Her Comments On Donald Trump For Her Speech, But Told Matt Lauer "He's An Amazing Person"

Prior to their arrival in Cleveland for the RNC, Donald Trump and Melania Trump spoke to Matt Lauer on their private jet. The conversation took place seven years ago, as the two chatted about the significance of the Republican National Convention. The pressure was also on Melania, who had to issue a speech at the event. Melania kept her composure when asked by Matt Lauer if she was feeling any nerves.

"I re-read it once over. I wrote it, I got as little help as possible." Lauer asks, "Are you nervous? It would be okay to be nervous." Melania responds, "I'm excited."

Melania is then asked a key question, and that's what she wants to tell the delegates that they didn't already know about Trump. Melania's answer certainly had Donald Trump looking different.

She said, "I will tell it in the speech," Lauer interjects, "She's really good, she's learned a lot from you." Melania continues, "He's an amazing guy, he really wants to bring America to the next level."

It certainly was a simpler time for the two. Melania would face criticism for her speech at the RNC, while Matt Lauer was also blasted for his apparent bias towards Donald at The Commander-in-Chief Forum.

Donald Trump Defended Matt Lauer After He Faced Criticism For How Differently He Handled Hillary Clinton During The Commander-In-Chief Forum

The sense was Matt Lauer gave Donald Trump an easy pass, while Hillary Clinton was asked some tough questions. During his interview on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Trump instead praised Matt Lauer for the Presidential forum.

“I look forward to the next debate,” Trump said. “Lester is the moderator. I think it’s very tough for Lester. Because frankly I thought Matt Lauer did a fantastic job, and they’re trying to game the system by saying Trump won the debate because Matt Lauer wasn’t as tough on Trump as he was on Hillary Clinton. That wasn’t it. He was very tough on me and he was tough on her. But they’re trying to make it so that Lester is going to come out and really be tough on me. And I think it’s unfair. They’re trying to game the system.”

In the same year, Matt Lauer was fired by NBC. The termination of his contract was due to sexual misconduct behind the scenes. Lauer hasn't returned since, but has hinted at a return.

Melania Trump Faced Heat For Her Speech At The RNC Given That It Was Similar To Michelle Obama's

Melania was clearly excited about her speech, but it didn't go over well. Fans and media felt as though it beared a striking similarity to Michelle Obama's address.

An example of how similar the speeches were... Melania said, "My parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond, and you do what you say and keep your promise. That you treat people with respect."

While on the flip side, Michelle Obama's speech reads, "Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them."

It only got more similar as she went on, "Pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow, because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and the willingness to work for them."

Obama's speech reads, "We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

Of course, Donald was insistent that Melania got as little help as possible for her speech.
