Required security measures for computers and servers

Submitted by stauffeg on

OIT, in partnership with campus stakeholders, introduced Secure Computing Standards for computers and servers in 2022 to safeguard the systems and information that are critical to our operations. To achieve these standards, we are now asking all users of university-issued computers and server administrators to install the necessary software or make configuration changes to meet the following compliance goals by June 30.

  • By June 30, 2024, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint software must be installed on all university-owned computers. Defender for Endpoint provides real-time scanning to prevent, detect and remove malicious software or activity. Learn more about Defender for Endpoint and how to install it. If you need help installing or uninstalling software, please contact your department’s IT professional or the IT Service Center. If your computer is supported by OIT’s Dedicated Desktop Support team, Defender is already installed on your computer, so no action is needed.
  • By June 30, 2024, all servers should be in full compliance with the Secure Computing Standard for Servers, including the installation of endpoint detection and response (EDR) software.

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance within our community and we have compiled a summary of the data that is collected through Secure Computing and how it is used to address questions you may have.

We thank you for your continued partnership in working toward a more secure, resilient, hybrid-smart environment for CU Boulder that safeguards our resources and protects us from threats that can disrupt our ability to fulfill the campus mission.
