Katie Holmes Solidifies Her Summer Uniform by Repeating This Casual Trick

The hotter it gets, the harder it is to dress, because you can’t exactly layer unless you want to suffer the sweaty consequences. Katie Holmes, however, is giving us a lesson in how to casually stack summer pieces without sacrificing comfort.

Our favorite street-style lazy-chic dresser was spotted in New York on Thursday afternoon in a breezy boho fit that was another instance of the Dawson’s Creek alum layering a slipdress over a tank top.

For this look, Holmes chose a silky black spaghetti-strap midi dress, which featured a sharp V-neck hemline at the top. All the way down the front of the dress was visible stitching, which was repeated on the sides as well. To match the slip, Holmes carried a black fold-over bag on her arm—however, she added a pop of color with her pine-green tank, which featured thick sienna-brown edges.

To round out the ensemble, the actor and director—ever the fan of a playful shoe—chose a pair of suede beige moccasins. These flats featured ruched detailing around the toes and a matching strap going across the vamp. To further accessorize, Holmes donned a stack of golden necklaces in varying lengths, and added a pair of oversize sunglasses to try to beat the blazing sun.

This is the second time this week Holmes has thrown on a slipdress over a tank. Just a few days back, she was spotted out in a different slouchy black number, which she layered over a pink tank that peeped out from underneath the dress. If the look ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
