Introduction to Yeonghwiwon (Consort of Queen Sunheon) and Sunginwon (Lee Jin) in Seoul

Yeonghwiwon is the tomb of Queen Sunheon Eom, a concubine of Emperor Gojong of the Korean Empire, and Sunginwon is the tomb of Lee Jin Wonson, the eldest son of Crown Prince Uimin, the last crown prince of the Korean Empire.
Eom's memorial tablet is currently enshrined in Chilgung, located in Gungjeong-dong, Jongno-gu.
Consort Sunheon Eom (1854-1911) was the eldest daughter of Eom Jin-sam. She entered the palace at the age of eight and became Empress Myeongseong's first concubine. In 1897, she gave birth to King Yeongchin and became King Gojong's concubine.
In 1903, she was appointed as the Queen Mother and lived at Gyeongseon Palace.
Queen Hwang established Jinmyeong Girls' School and Sookmyung Girls' School to provide new education for women, and when Yangjeong School experienced financial difficulties, she donated 2 million pyeong of land and internal expenses, playing a major role in nurturing talented people who would take charge of the country.
He passed away at Jeukjodang in Deoksugung Palace in 1911 after the end of the reign of Gyeongsul.
The sacred spirit was enshrined in Deokangung Palace, and Deokangung Palace was later moved to the grounds of Yooksanggung Palace.
Crown Prince Uimin's first son, Lee Jin Wonson (1921-1922), was born in Japan as the first son of King Yeongchin and Crown Princess Lee.
The following year, he returned to Korea briefly with King Yeongchin and his wife, but died suddenly at Seokjojeon in Deoksugung Palace a day before returning to Japan.
Emperor Sunjong regretted Wonson's death and ordered a lavish funeral, and a tomb was built at the current location.
Yeonghwiwon was built in accordance with the Joseon Dynasty's elemental system, with Hongsalmun, Jeongjagak, and Monument erected, and a stone engraving surrounding the crown.
Sunginwon was built similarly to Yeonghwiwon, but the stone and setting sun were omitted from the circle, and the size of the stone monument and burial mound was made smaller than other wonwons.
