Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies insists that David Tennant is "absolutely not coming back".

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has reiterated his claim that David Tennant is "absolutely not coming back" to the show.

Tennant returned to the role of The Doctor last year as a new incarnation of the Time Lord but, in a "bigeneration" twist, both his Doctor and Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor now co-exist.

In his final scenes, Tennant's Doctor was seen settling down for a relaxed life with old companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), leaving open the possibility of a future comeback, but Davies has joked that Fourteen has died.

"I think he died," he told The Times. "I'm going to start saying that. He went to Venice, 2063, when the city sank, and he went into a whirlpool, which is really sad...

"David is parked and retired and it's all Ncuti's show now. Genuinely. Not that David might be coming back - he's absolutely not coming back."

Davies also confirmed that spinoff shows are in the works, admitting that "there are offices that exist now for that", as well as revealing that he has started writing a third season of the main show despite it not yet being formally commissioned.
