Big Ed Is A Toxic Partner

He Also Manipulated Rose

Big Ed has exhibited toxic behavior since he first appeared in the franchise alongside Rose. In his relationship with Rose, their significant age gap was just the beginning of the issues. Big Ed frequently made rude and demeaning comments to Rose, such as criticizing her breath and pressuring her to shave her legs, which made her feel insulted and embarrassed. Additionally, he exhibited flirtatious behavior with other women, causing jealousy and tension with his partners.

In his relationship with Liz, Big Ed's toxic behavior persisted. He falsely accused Liz of being in a relationship with a female friend, showed signs of dishonesty by communicating with his ex-girlfriend Rose behind Liz's back, and repeatedly broke up with Liz, displaying indecisiveness and instability in their relationship. The ultimate betrayal occurred when Big Ed canceled their wedding without informing Liz directly, highlighting his lack of respect and consideration for his partner's feelings.

Communication issues contributed to almost all of Big Ed and Liz's breakups.

Big Ed's pattern of disrespect, manipulation, and emotional abuse towards his partners demonstrates why he is toxic. He hasn't exhibited any growth throughout his time on the show. Until he can remedy these behaviors, Big Ed needs to stay single.

Big Ed Has Control Issues

He Always Needs The Power

The breakup scene in a recent episode showcased Big Ed's desire to maintain control at all costs. He blindsided Liz by canceling the wedding without her input, causing her confusion and heartbreak. Despite Liz's willingness to salvage their relationship, Big Ed remained stubborn in his decision, refusing to consider reconciliation. His manipulation of Liz's emotions, using justifications like concerns about their future and sparing her from further pain, only highlights his desire to control the narrative and maintain power.

Big Ed canceled his and Liz's wedding without consulting Liz first, a manipulative and disrespectful move.

Throughout their relationship, Big Ed consistently made major decisions without consulting Liz, demonstrating a lack of respect for her agency. Even seemingly trivial issues like cooking spicy taco pasta escalated due to his disregard for her feelings and communication breakdowns. By taking away Liz's choices, Big Ed reinforces his immaturity and need for control in the relationship. He needs to stay single to spare future women this same toxic cycle.

Big Ed Makes The Same Mistakes In His Relationships

He Hasn't Grown During His Time In The Franchise

Overall, Big Ed hasn't grown at all during his time in the franchise. He was rude and offensive toward Rose in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, but he showed little improvement in his relationship with Liz. Big Ed continued to disrespect Liz, blindside her, and refuse to improve his communication skills. He was always manipulative and couldn't even do the bare minimum in their relationship. His relationship with Liz's daughter wasn't great, and they would break up instead of making actionable changes.

Big Ed isn't hopeless. Everyone holds the capacity for change and growth. However, Big Ed hasn't shown his desire to become a better person over multiple shows, including 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 8. Until he chooses to work on himself, Ed will have the same issues with miscommunication, disrespect, and fighting. He needs to learn what it means to listen to and have admiration for women as people, not just as objects he can use. Given his current behavior, he should be alone.
