Recap: Day 2 results from the Iowa state track and field meet 2024

The second day of the 2024 Iowa high school state track and field meet is over.

Many athletes and relay teams set records and were crowned champions, and there's still plenty of action left on for Saturday.

Check below to review all the finals results from Friday's events:

6:45 p.m. - Ema Roberts dominates 1A girls high jump

HLV junior Ema Roberts easily won the title by clearing 5-feet-7-inches, three inches more than the next-closest competitor.

6:20 p.m. - 4A boys shot put, 1A boys discus conclude

In 4A boys shot put, Dowling Catholic senior Nathan Rotherham won with a throw of 59-feet-0.50-inches, just one quarter of an inch further than the runner-up.

In 1A boys discus, Akron-Westfield senior Ian Blowe finished first with a throw of 175-feet-11-inches, over 16 feet further than the second-place finisher.

6:15 p.m. - Aidan Jacobson takes 4A boys 400m hurdles title

West senior Aidan Jacobson won with a time of 52.85 seconds.

Cedar Falls junior Jaxon Schreiber finished second with a PR of 53.71 seconds.

Bettendorf sophomore J.J. McDermott finished just behind with a PR of 53.87.

6:10 p.m. - Ryce Reynolds sets state record in 1A boys 400m hurdles

Mount Ayr senior Ryce Reynolds set a new 1A state record with a PR of 51.68 seconds.

Lenox junior Gabe Funk came in second with a time of 53.65.

Westwood junior Joe Dewald finished third with a time of 54.40.

6 p.m. - Abby Mecklenburg wins 4A girls long jump

Linn-Mar sophomore Abby Mecklenburg took first with a jump of 18-feet-2.25-inches.

Johnston junior Jaida Bell placed second by jumping 18 feet.

Urbandale senior Lainey Drown finished third by jumping 17-feet-9-inches.

5:55 p.m. - Avery Winter takes first place in 4A girls 400m hurdles

Waukee Northwest junior Avery Winter won with a PR of 1:02.11 minutes, the second-best time ran in Iowa this season.

Pleasant Valley senior Jessie Clemens ran a terrific race as well, narrowly finishing second with a PR time of 1:02.17.

Ames sophomore Angelica Attinger came in third with a PR of 1:03.33.

5:45 p.m. - Carly Henderson earns 1A girls 400m hurdles crown

Riverside senior Carly Henderson placed first with a time of 1:04.58 minutes.

Fremont-Mills junior Bella Gute finished second with a PR of 1:06.68.

CAM freshman Ada Hansen came in third after running a PR of 1:06.91.

5:30 p.m. - Ankeny Centennial wins 4A boys 4x200

The team of Robert McGhee, Braeden Jackson, Elijah Porter and Connor Welsch won with a time of 1:26.20.

5:20 p.m. - Lisbon sets new state record in 1A boys 4x200

The squad of Tiernan Boots, Dakota Clark, Reid Fridley and Baylor Speidel set a new 1A boys state record with a time of 1:28.46 minutes.

5:05 p.m. - Waukee Northwest sets all-time record in 4A girls 4x200 relay

The foursome of Ayrissa Robinson, Keziah Caldwell, Aunya Van Zetten and Katie Stahl broke the Iowa all-time record with a time of 1:39.15 minutes.

4:55 p.m. - Lisbon wins 1A girls 4x200 relay

The Lisbon squad of Addy Happel, Ava Czarnecki, Brynn Epperly and Addie Clark narrowly won with a time of 1:46.93 minutes.

4:05 p.m. - Ankeny wins 4A boys sprint medley relay race

The quartet of Samuel Sandvig, Devon Akers, Jake Bosch and Ethan Zuber took first with a time of 3:24.56 minutes.

4 p.m. - T.Y. Pour takes 4A boys long jump crown

Prairie junior T.Y. Pour notched the best leap in Iowa this season with a PR of 23-feet-4.5-inches.

West senior Aidan Jacobson placed second with a PR of 22-feet-11.75-inches.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Jacob Smetzer finished third with a jump of 22-feet-9.5-inches.

3:55 p.m. - Results in for 4A girls shot put, 1A boys high jump

In 4A girls shot put, Burlington freshman dominated the field and won with a throw of 45-feet-2.5-inches.

In 1A boys high jump, AC/GC senior Lance Bunde won with a PR cleared height of 6-feet-6-inches.

3:50 p.m. - Lydia Kriegel wins 1A girls discus

Iowa Valley junior Lydia Kriegel took first place with a PR throw of 135-feet-3-inches.

Pekin sophomore Anna Hadley placed second with a hurl of 132-feet-5-inches, and Saint Ansgar sophomore Lindsay Kruse placed third at 130-feet-8-inches.

3:45 p.m. - Wapsie Valley takes 1A boys 1600 sprint medley relay title

Wapsie Valley edged Woodbine for first place, notching a time of 3:33.05 that won by less than half of one second.

3:25 p.m. - Hempstead takes 4A girls 1600 sprint medley relay title

Hempstead narrowly captured the victory with a time of 4:00.21 minutes, just 1.58 seconds faster than second-place Pleasant Valley.

3:05 p.m. - Nashua-Plainfield wins 1A girls 1600 sprint medley relay

Nashua-Plainfield took first with a time of 4:09.07 minutes.

1:20 p.m. - Next round of field events wraps up

In 3A boys shot put, Pella senior Hanson King won with a throw of 59-feet-5.50-inches.

In 2A boys discus, Underwood senior Maxwell Tiarks won with a hurl of 181-feet-4-inches, just two inches further than the second-place finisher.

In 3A girls long jump, Clear Lake junior set a new state record with a leap of 19-feet-3.50-inches.

In 2A girls high jump, Emmetsburg sophomore Rachel Schany won by clearing 5-feet-4-inches on her second attempt.

12:27 p.m. - Boys 400 hurdles are complete

Central DeWitt's Tristan Rheingans wins the 3A race in 52.64. Iowa Falls-Alden's Jaden Damiano wins the 2A race in 52.03.

12:11 p.m. - Van Meter and Clear Lake pick up big wins in the girls hurdles

Van Meter's Eden Moore takes the 2A race in 1:03.13. Clear Lake's Reese Brownlee sets a new state record in the 3A race (59.83).

11.53 a.m. - Another state record falls

ADM’s football-heavy quartet of Brevin Doll, Aiden Flora, Zach Lohmann and Grant Rychnovsky set a state and all-time record in the 3A boys 4x200 (1:25.55)

11:33 a.m. - Just wrapped up two more 4x200 races

MOC-FV wins the 3A girls race in 1:42.06. South Hamilton wins the boys 2A race in 1:28.02.

11:14 a.m. - If a Kacmarynski is involved, Pella Christian is likely doing something well

The last name has been synonymous with football success over the years, and track works the same way apparently. Rachel Kacmarynski part of PC’s winning quartet in the 2A 4x200. She, along with Bailey Vos, Amaia Agre and Meredith Van Wyk set a new state record in 1:39.72.

11:05 a.m. - First wave of field results are in

3A girls shot put: Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Charlee Morton (41-02.00)

2A girls discus: Spirit Lake’s Fran Travis (140-05)

3A boys long jump: CCA’s Aren Schlemme (22-02.50)

2A boys high jump: Albia’s Ryan Little (6-09.00)

10:43 a.m. - More on Des Moines Christian’s SMR win

Pretty impressive to come from the second heat for a win.

10:19 a.m. - Western Dubuque keeps momentum rolling

More hardware for Quentin Nauman as part of the Bobcats’ winning 1600 SMR squad. Western Dubuque owns the 3A race in 3.28.17.

9:55 a.m. - Two more SMR finals are complete

Gilbert wins the 3A girls SMR in 4:06.13. Des Moines Christian wins the boys 2A SMR in 3:31.05.

9:28 a.m. - Tipton kicks the day off with a state record

Quartet of Addie Nerem, Alivia Edens, Ella Hein and Noelle Steines finish in 4:06.40 to set a state record in the 2A girls 1600 SMR.

9 a.m. - Ready to roll on day two at the Blue Oval

Girls 1600 SMR in 2A and 3A will get us started. Girls 3A shot put, boys 3A long jump and boys 2A high jump also underway.

How to watch the 2024 Iowa state track and field meet

If you're not able to make your way over to Drake Stadium for this year's events, you can still remotely watch the state's top athletes compete.

The 2024 Iowa High School Track & Field Championships will be broadcast online by the Iowa High School Sports Network. You can see the heats as they happen on the IHSSN website or using the Watch IHSSN app.

The live stream is slated to start at 9 a.m. each day of the meet.

The 2024 Iowa High School Track & Field Championships will also be televised by Mediacom (MC-22) and other select IHSSN cable affiliates.
