This summer, it’s time to return to Westeros. House of the Dragon season two is coming to HBO on June 16 and the latest trailer just dropped. In it, there’s plenty of drama, intrigue, old characters, new characters, and yes war is coming.

Here’s the new trailer for House of the Dragon season two.

House of the Dragon Season 2 | Official Trailer | Max

When last we left the madness of Westeros (October 2022 for us), a full-fledged battle for the Iron Throne was on. Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) had helped her son skip the rightful path to the throne and crowned him king. That did not sit well with her former best friend Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) who was promised by her father, Alicent’s husband, that she would be queen. The former best friends immediately found themselves on different sides of history, ripping a divide right down the middle of the realm. Then, of course, all manner of other factors played in too, most importantly the role of Rhaenyra’s uncle Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). He’s siding with Rhaenyra for now but always has himself first in mind.

The trailer shows that conflict picking right back up with all the intrigue and action we’ve come to expect from the world of George R.R. Martin. Looking back, I think many of us were surprised when season one of House of the Dragon actually lived up to the quality of its predecessor, Game of Thrones (which is set generations after this). This new trailer certainly shows that level of quality, care, and sheer madness is back. And we’re very much looking forward to it.
