‘Have I Got News for You’: U.S. Remake Set At CNN

Have I Got News For You is one of the longest running comedy panel shows in the UK and it’s finally set to get it own U.S. remake.

CNN is adapting the show, which launched in the UK 1990 and has produced over 500 episodes. It will premiere the show in the fall and it will air on Saturday nights.

The news was unveiled at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfront in New York.

No cast has been set for the CNN series; Private Eye editor Ian Hislop and comedian Paul Merton are the captains for the UK show, which has had rotating guest hosts for over 20 years.

The series will be produced by Hat Trick Productions, which makes the UK version and was behind Showtime’s Episodes. Jimmy Mulville, Richard Wilson and Jim Biederman will exec produce.

The show features comic observations from the satirical to the surreal through the lens of a news quiz show.

It marks the latest attempt to remake the show in the U.S. CNN sister network TBS made a pilot in 2012 and NBC had previously attempted a version in 2009.

“To bring Have I Got News for You to such an iconic network as CNN is a great honor and career highlight for us all at Hat Trick,” said Hat Trick boss and exec producer Jimmy Mulville. “I just hope there will be something interesting going on in the fall for us to talk about.”
