Riley Moore, the nephew of U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, is one step closer to joining her in Congress.

The current state treasurer won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.

Riley Moore defeated Joe Early, Chris “Mookie” Walker, Dennis “Nate” Cain and Alexander Gaaserud.

The winner of the November general election will assume the seat vacated by Alex Mooney as he ran for U.S. Senator.

Moore won the race for treasurer in West Virignia in 2020 by unseating 24-year incumbent Democrat John Perdue.
