Donald Trump says world is 'laughing' at New York's judicial system amid hush money trial

"This day is truly going to go down as a day of infamy for the New York legal system, which is through," Trump told reporters, per Fox News. "The whole world is laughing now at the New York weaponized legal system."

Former President Donald Trump claimed that the whole world is "laughing" at New York's legal system on Monday night, after he heard his former attorney Michael Cohen testify against him in his alleged "hush money" case.

Trump is currently facing the first of four criminal trials against him, which centers around allegations that he doctored financial papers to hide an alleged "hush money" payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and denied any sexual encounters with Daniels.

The former president mocked the trial after the proceedings had wrapped for the day, and said there was no evidence he had committed any crime, and that the main reason for the trial was to keep him from the campaign trial. Trump has been ordered to be present at every day of the trial, except for his youngest son's high school graduation.

"This day is truly going to go down as a day of infamy for the New York legal system, which is through," Trump told reporters, per Fox News. "The whole world is laughing now at the New York weaponized legal system, watching this unfold in that courtroom as a lawyer is really deeply disturbing."

Trump also blasted the trial's judge, Juan Merchan, as "corrupt" and "conflicted," on the case, and claimed he was keeping him from campaigning.

Harvard Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz also blasted the trial on Monday, stating that if Trump is convicted by the New York jury, the ruling would be overturned on an appeal. He also claimed he cannot see any crime that Trump has supposedly admitted, including when he labeled payments to Cohen as "legal fees."

"Even if you take every word [Cohen] said, seriously, I just don't think there's a crime there," Dershowitz said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.  "When you list payment that you made to avoid a lawsuit as legal expenses, that's fairly accurate. Even if you think it's inaccurate, it's not criminal. It's not fraudulent. Then the idea that he intended to defraud the voters, my God, if you ever prosecuted candidates for defrauding the voters, every campaign would be conducted from prison."

Dershowitz added that the United States legal system should not be used to make "political points." But he said Democrats were achieving their "political goals" in keeping Trump from campaigning by locking him in a court room, imposing a gag order on him, and would likely get a conviction, which could sway the election, even if it fails to hold.
