Behind the Northern Irishman is Xander Schauffele, who held the lead until Saturday but ultimately finished tied for second at -12. South Korean golfer Byeong Hun An claimed the third spot at -9, buoyed by an impressive -5 in the final 18 holes.
Sharing fourth place are another South Korean, Sungjae Im (who finished at +2), and Australian Jason Day, both at -6. Tied for sixth are Denny McCarthy from the USA and Canadian Mackenzie Hughes, both at -5. Eighth place sees Max Homa and Austrian Sepp Straka tied at -4, while Russell Henley, Grayson Murray, and Canadian Taylor Pendrith, all finishing at -3, complete the top ten.
Rory McIlroy, born on May 4, 1989, in Holywood, Northern Ireland, is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland. From a young age, he stood out for his golfing prowess, particularly as an amateur. He claimed the Junior Ryder Cup in 2004, represented Ireland at the Eisenhower Trophy in 2006, and clinched five tournament victories, including the European Amateur Championship in 2006 (as well as the European Amateur Team Championship in 2007).
McIlroy turned professional in September 2007 at the age of 18. His first triumph on the PGA European Tour came at the Dubai Desert Classic in February 2009, followed by his maiden victory on the American circuit the following year at the Quail Hollow Championship.
Despite securing third-place finishes in two major tournaments in 2009 (the PGA Championship) and 2010 (the Masters), his breakthrough came at the 2011 US Open where he claimed his first Major title. McIlroy ascended to the world number one ranking for the first time on March 4, 2012, at the age of 22, just 43 days after winning the Honda Classic, a PGA Tour event in Palm Beach Gardens.
On August 12, 2012, he became the first Northern Irishman in history to win the PGA Championship, also becoming the first Briton to do so since Tommy Armour in 1930. In 2014, McIlroy added his third major title by winning The Open Championship, followed by a fourth at the PGA Championship.
That same year, he secured his second consecutive Ryder Cup victory while representing Europe against the United States. In 2019, following a successful season in the United States, including a FedEx Cup victory, the Northern Irish golfer was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
