The Sun is shining on Tyneside

The ‘Currant Bun’ definitely brings folks flocking to Tynemouth and there were as many bonnie lasses as blokes that had obviously called in a ‘sickie’ on Friday.

Me and Auld Ellas were joined at the club by a few of our North Shields mates and we had a good natter about the Toon whilst we were absorbing the rays outside.

Ellas had earlier dropped the bandit once again. He’s took well over two grand out of it in the last few weeks and I’m getting a bit wary that he might get barred.

We were joined at the tables by two nice couples from Peterlee. They were stopping at the plush and refurbished Tynemouth Castle Hotel on the seafront and after reminding them that they were now in God’s country, I childishly sang them a chorus of ‘Welcome Home’ by Peters and Lee.

Mick, John, Jenny the Hat and Anita didn’t seem really into football but were keen on their music, which was ironic because Anita told me that her maiden name was Dobson.

I was on about my fifth glass of vino by now and couldn’t help but give her a quick rendition of the non-classic 1986 hit ‘Anyone can fall in love’.

My mates and I are all looking forward to Newcastle United’s last home game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion.

There is now a firm belief that we are currently in sixth position on merit because we have a better team than our rivals for a European spot, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Without being over confident or taking anything for granted, three points against Brighton is essential.

The Seagulls are coming here on the back of a win but their form has been more than erratic of late.

I’m sure that Eddie Howe will just have too much firepower at his disposal and will also see off the mind games on the touchline from his opposite number Roberto De Zerbi.

Chelsea have a tough looking away fixture at Nottingham Forest who are fighting to stay up. I think Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will prevail in their fight and also reckon that our old boy Chris Wood could end up being the man to give Pochettino even more blues.

Man Utd entertain title chasing Arsenal at Old Trafford and I cannot see the points going anywhere except back to the Emirates.

As has been stated before, Erik ten Hag is now on borrowed time at the Reds. I honestly don’t know how they are currently as high as 8th in the EPL.

Lets get a win against Brighton and go down to Salford on Wednesday and beat this busted flush again.

Then we’ll have European football staring us in the face.
