Paisley school set to be recognised by Renfrewshire councillors for 'exceptional' inspection achievement

A Paisley primary school is set to be recognised in the Renfrewshire Council chambers for its "exceptional achievement" in receiving a glowing inspection report.

A motion will be put forward at Thursday's full meeting commending Williamsburgh Primary School, its head teacher and staff, for its impressive performance. The school and early learning and childcare class were graded 'very good' across six of eight indicators, which were recently assessed by Education Scotland.

The education facility – where approximately half of pupils come from households experiencing high levels of deprivation – was applauded for strong leadership and learning, teaching and assessment.

Councillor Graeme Clark, a Labour representative for Paisley Northeast and Ralston, submitted the congratulatory motion to full council. It has been seconded by his party colleague Councillor Carolann Davidson, who represents Paisley East and Central.

Councillor Clark said: "There are many good schools in Renfrewshire but this school has around 50 per cent of children coming from a place of poverty and has had a large input of Ukrainian children and so the results of this inspection are remarkable.

"The staff need to be praised for what I think is an exceptional report on what they've done. I think that the head teacher and staff have done an amazing job given the demographics of the school. I visited the school personally and thanked the teachers but I wanted to bring it to the council as a public recognition of what they've done."

The early learning and childcare class was found to have excelled in its leadership of change; learning teaching and assessment; ensuring wellbeing equality and inclusion; and securing children's progress. Councillor Clark's motion asks elected members to commend the head teacher and staff on the report findings and note this is an "exceptional achievement".

It added: "Renfrewshire Council echoes the report in its commendations of the highly effective head teacher and the fact that all staff work well together as a team; it further commends the schools strong focus on promoting inclusion and diversity; and acknowledges with approval that the children of Williamsburgh Primary School show respect, care and kindness."
