The term nepo babies has been at the forefront of the zeitgeist as of late. In its quest to be more equitable, society is struggling to reconcile how being a child of a famous public figure can offer certain advantages. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have some ideas of their own about this.

One of the ways Ashton and Mila are making sure their children are not spoiled or entitled includes not leaving their $275 million fortune to them. They want their children to have to work to make their own way in the world. They do not want them to simply ride their parents' coattails.

Ashton and Mila first met on the set of That ‘70s Show in 1998. Although they played on-screen lovers, their love story did not start until 14 years later, in 2012. They reconnected at the 69th Golden Globe Awards, sparks flew, and they began dating.

Fast-forward to February 27, 2014, and the couple got engaged. Later that same year, their daughter, Wyatt Isabelle, was born. Ashton and Mila got married in Oak Glen on the Fourth of July in 2015. Their son, Dimitri Portwood, was born in 2016.

Ashton first publicly stated his and Mila’s stance on their children’s lack of inheritance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in 2018. “I’m not setting up a trust for them. We’ll end up giving our money away to charity and to various things,” he explained.

Talk to moms about mom stuff. And make money doing it.

He also went on to explain their reasoning for this. He believes Wyatt and Dimitri are already “living a really privileged life and they don’t even know it.” He and Mila want them to maintain a groundedness even though they are privileged.

That doesn’t mean he and Mila will not support their kids’ dreams. “If my kids want to start a business, and they have a good business plan, I’ll invest in it. But they’re not getting trusts,” he explained.

Mila and Ashton have made other parenting moves to make sure their children are not spoiled. Another one of them is not giving them Christmas gifts. Mila told Entertainment Tonight that the couple refuses to “raise [expletive]” and there is a “no presents for the kids” policy at their house during the holidays.

Although this story is old news, it recently resurfaced on Twitter and is making the rounds, sparking debate. Some think it is a cruel move.

“I would hate being their nepo baby,” commented one user. Others believe it is the only way to go.

“It’s fine; just because they’re the children of a famous couple, they will have opportunities a little easier than the others,” chimed in another user.

Ashton and Mila are not the only famous public figures to make this choice. They are among the ranks of Anderson Cooper, Bill Gates, Simon Cowell, Elton John, and Jackie Chan. Every parent has to decide what is best for their own children.
