Video: Hayes Carll & The Band of Heathens “Nobody Dies From Weed”

Check out this laid-back honky tonk-tune from Hayes Carll and The Band of Heathens.  With tongue-in-cheek lyrics, this good-humoured reflection on the merits of marijuana and getting high is an engaging number.  Over shuffling rhythms, ‘Nobody Dies from Weed’ features great harmonies, characterful vocals and plenty of country twang.  From the opening line, the song’s theme is direct and clear: “There’s a million ways to make the grave, but nobody dies from weed,” and then Carll takes us through a list of intriguing ways to go: “A hornet’s sting, a boxing ring, cancer storms or speed…A big earthquake, a hunk of steak, envy lust or greed…The local bar, the closest star or some kind of dirty deed.”  For all the talk of death, it actually has an anthemic, celebratory feel.

Josh Clark has put together an excellent animated video – vibrant and stylish, the visual reinforces the message and feel of the song.  ‘Nobody Dies from Weed’ is available for streaming now – enjoy.
